Need help guys. Have just bought an XP netbook for work and want to connect it wirelessly to my Mac for internet sharing. How exactly can I do this? Ten minutes with windows once gain and I already want to throw it at the wall. I know the Mac side as I already share my PS3 and ipod touch that way.

If I recall, you need to enable internet sharing in system preferences and then sharing. It should give you the option to share to Airport from ethernet and your Mac's name will be broadcast as the SSID. It should then just be a case of selecting the faux wireless network with your Mac's name and away you go.

if I click on my Mac's SSID, it gives an error as it doesn't know the password I assume. I will have to look into in further detail.

Okay so Windows wants key and password by what are they? The same as the one I set on my Mac? As for that I just entered a four letter word and it auto generated a WEP key or whatever. I hate MS.

I recently created a wifi network from my Mac and shared it with two Windows users, neither were asked for a password. Have you got anything like FileVault enabled or something else security related perhaps?

If I remove security, then of course it will just connect. I have set up WEP security on my Mac to stop people doing that, leeching from my connection. The trouble is that the password, that auto generates a key, that I use in on my Mac, isn't recognised by windows. Perhaps it wants the actual WEP key thingy, the number.

                    I think:
If you select 5 characters for a 40 bit password or 13 characters for a 104 bit password, then ... All wireless manufacturers convert each roman (ASCII) character directly into a hexadecimal [...].

For example: If your 40 bit password is "apple", the hex value equivalent is 6170706C65 (a=61, p=70, p=70, l=6C, e= 65). For a 104 bit password of "applecomputer", the hex is 6170706C65636F6D7075746572. This is true regardless of manufacturer.
                    Source.

(this would apply to WEP only)

So if your current password is neither 5 nor 13 characters, change it to one that is. Then translate it to hex using the "hx" solum of this table. Enter the "hex translation" on the PC.

                      Quick help needed please.

I have just bought AEBS (gigabit version not dual band) and was trying to set it up last night, but it was forever flashing yellow (amber) light.

I have connected the ethernet cable from my O2 (Thompson router) wireless box II router to the WAN port on the AEBS but instead of the status light going solid green, it is constantly flashing amber (which according to the manual mean either it cannot find internet or is starting up).

My internet is working fine as I have two other computer on the router hardwired and another laptop wireless and it shouldn't take the whole night to start up.

Can anyone shed some more light into this problem? Is there a known fault in the AEBS that I am unaware of? or Has anyone got a similar setup and can give me some helpful pointers.

Turn on modem, turn on AEBS, launch Airport Utility, go through setup to configure the AEBS. It will save the settings and reboot the AEBS and hopefully turn green.

Thanks for replying, I managed to sort it in the end by resetting the AEBS.

Well after switching in April to a Mac, I've now gotten myself a MacBook Pro as I can no longer stand windows.

I love the 13" MBP, I was considering the 15" but this one is such a nice little machine, which I'll be using for commuting to Uni. Went for the 4GB RAM model with a 2.53GHz, very nippy indeed.

My iMac now has a little brother.

Very nice setup there. Is that Adobe Creative Suite 4 I see?
