Don't suppose there's any high-street chains doing money-off vouchers or sales where I could save something on a Mac Mini? Finally had enough of my Apple TV and there doesn't seem to be any NAS out there which doesn't have some sort of catch, so am going the media server route instead.

Try the refurb store? (page is currently taken down to be updated, comes back up around 3am UK time each day apparently). Mini's do appear on there once or twice every week normally
Save up to 15% on a refurbished Mac. Tested and certified by Apple including a 1-year warranty. Free delivery and returns.

Cancom had some of the previous models with £150 off but think they've all gone now.

        EDIT:

£459 for a decent spec. Was £649 three months back.

Otherwise you might save a tenner at Computer Warehouse or somewhere online but it's hardly worth the hassle/wait.

I'm thinking of buying this MacBook:-

The most powerful Mac laptops and desktops ever. Supercharged by Apple silicon. MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio and Mac Pro.

Just got a few questions if anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it.

          1. I've got an Ipod and I use iTunes on my PC. Does anyone know if I copy all my music out of my PC on to a removable hard disk then over to the macbook, I don't really fancy having to import 200+ cd's again.

          2. If I send a word document or any other kind of office file from a mac to a pc user would the pc user be able to open it?

          3. Is there anyway to run PC programs on mac these days?

I've never used a mac before so forgive me for asking what might seem as basic or silly questions.

Thanks in advance for any help.

1 - Yes you can copy your library from a PC to Mac without having to re-import

2 - Yes Word (and Excel) docs created on a Mac will open on PC and vice versa.

3 - Yes, there are various options for running PC programs on a Mac these days (you can install a full version of Windows on a separate partition or there are other programs that will let you run them from within OSX

Noel there's currently a nice aluminum MacBook Pro for £749 here - similar spec bar the 160GB hard drive

Since updating my MacBook to Snow Leopard, i've had quite a few problems with it. Seems slower overall than before.

And for some reason on certain songs when I click them on iTunes, it hangs for a few seconds then plays. Yet some are fine? Seems to be songs I added after I upgraded to snow leopard.

Any ideas what that might be?

Cheers for that David. I ended up getting the MacBook I posted a link to. I'm really loving it so far, it seems so much faster doing tasks than my HP laptop.

Can anyone recommend me any software I can buy, not sure what software I'm looking for but if there's anything I shouldn't be with out let me know.

                  Thanks

                    definitely get delicious library -

                    link

its amazing for keeping track of a big games collection - it scans the barcode with the isight camera and gets all the info. I find it invaluable.

Good stuff Noel, you'll never look back, two months in and I grimace when ever I have to fire up the PC to do something.

Are all you Mac users using Safari? guess most do, the only thing I (currently) don't like with it is when you right click on a picture, there is no "get info" option so you can't easily see things like dimensions/file format/file size unless you download the file, seems a bit strange as Properties on Windows does it easily. Guess Apple assume people don't grab images etc from the web lol.

Not the end of the world but something I do miss.

I used Safari for about a hour before I downloaded Firefox.

                          same firefox > everything else

@DavidH: I used Safari when I was using Snow Leopard as Firefox had issues (it would bump up the cpu usage like a beast, 80-90% even if it was just idling on a Google window) but I since went back to regular Leopard and use Firefox only now. Safari's ok but there's too much about Firefox to keep me using it especially as the cpu issue isn't occurring (Having said that, I put Snow Leopard back on before selling it last week and downloaded the latest Firefox and it didn't seem to be doing it so maybe they've fixed it now?) - things like the FireFTP addon for uploading to my webspace and the Rikaichan addon for translating Japanese stuff by hovering over it with the mouse, and also how dragging three fingers up or down would jump to the beginning or end of a page. I also couldn't get my head around Safari's strange bookmarking system. I think it's a bit nippier than Firefox (especially with things like Youtube vids) but I don't miss it at all.

I use OmniWeb. It's like Safari on steroids.

I've always liked Firefox, occasionally I find it has pausing moments.

Firefox can be made much worse by the amount of adds ons. So long as you manage this it'll generally behave.
