Above the power supply, my Japanese unit has way more text than that, and there's some Japanese. My PAL unit just looks the same as you've got pictured. It may be to do with the manufacture dates (my J unit was early 2006, compared to 2005 for my PAL) but it's clear you've blatantly got a PAL unit, I'm afraid

On a Japanese machine (connected via component), the HDTV resolution settings are labelled as D2/D3/D4/D5.

      System>Console Settings>Display>HDTV settings

        Sticker is intact.

I've just laid it flat at the holes are aligned. Just the way I was holding it/camera perspective.

It would have only been used for the 3-4 JPN exclusive shmups so it wouldn't get even a slight workout.

Just checked and in english language and japanese it's listed as 480/720/1080.

If someone else with a JPN can confirm the D listing I'd be grateful.

And just to make clear if it is a percy, It's a genuine mistake from the seller. I've already been offered a full refund if it wasn't me ****ing up.

For me my PAL has lots of text and this one doesn't have any. Guessing it's changed over the years.

So we don't need to send the boys round?

My Japanese unit has 480/720 etc.

                  Test inconclusive!

My Jpn unit has only ever listed my video setting through component as 480/720/1080 as well.

Think you may have a real one that is fubard but I cant see how.

I bought a PAL HDD for mine from a seller on AV Forums & I never had this issue...thank god.

Still playing all my jpn software quite happily

Nah, it must be a PAL unit, you'd think there'd be some way to check though!

                          Stupid microsoft

Been all round my machine & cant see anything that differentiates it from my brothers PAL unit.

                            Just to be clear, this is what's listed on the settings screen of my console;

                            D2 480p (525p)
                            D3 1080i (1125i)
                            D4 720p (750p)
                            D5 1080p (1125p)

The D2/D3 etc refer to D-Terminal, which only Japan uses. These "D" settings only appear on a Japanese 360, and only with a component lead connected. They've certainly been present on every Japanese system I've owned (which is 3 so far).

With an HDMI and VGA lead, the display options are the same as a PAL machine.

There might be some variance between JPN and Asian. Pretty sure the JPN units come with a dual composite/component cable like the PAL units do. If they come with a straight component cable that could be another difference.

My JPN unit just lists the 480/720 without any mention of the D-Terminal codes.

Either way, I'll find out in the next two days whether it was a mistake or me ****ing up. Thanks to everyone that's helped out.

A D-Terminal lead is what my (proper Japan, not Asian) consoles came with and I bought 2 of them new.
