Didn't realise the V4500 has XMB interface, that's quite cool, does it work like that for all the menus just like PSP/PS3 does? Optical out I can imagine is completely useless and only if your playing DD5.1 from Freeview or memory stick in the TV which I won't be doing as I have Sky+ anyway and memory stick play is of no interest to me.

Contrast ratio is too close to make it worthwhile for me to pay the extra also.

One thing I notice on the comparison though is the V4500 has 24p and like you say, 1080p input. I don't know exactly how it works though, I have my PS3 set to 720p for games and Bluray, but does that mean I could set it to 1080p instead using the V4500 and it would accept the input and scale it better or something? Anyone able to clear that up? And of course 24p when playing 1080p video makes things smoother doesn't it on fast moving shots?

    Yeah XMB for everything:

I run the PS3 @ 1080p as it seems to scale well on the internet browser.

Bluerays are outputting 1080p @ 24fps and seem very smooth, but obviously you can't see the detail.

I tested the 32W4000 and 32V4500 with Blueray/PS3 and I was only able to see a difference very close to the TV's and even then it was a tiny difference.

I can't see the point of 1080p for 32", but I think it's nice that the V4500 accepts and downscales the signal, just in case some weird game, Blueray player or console only outputs 1080P in the future.

      Sweet, cheers for the picture.

I don't think I can justify the extra price though for it myself. Strange that the RRP difference is only £50 between these but the actual selling price difference is over £150. I would have gladly paid £50 extra to get this over the V4000 but not £150!

I'll maybe go into a store and test the V4000 then to see if it is good enough for me, but I imagine it will be light years ahead of what I'm using right now so will amaze me anyway.

Funny you should say that, as I just mailed my folks and told them to get the V4000 from play.com! 3 years warrenty and a mid range 32" from Sony for under ?400? Madness!

Yeah I told my dad too. A great offer really and he was looking for a new TV.

I think I've just decided I'm gonna get this without testing it. I can't imagine I'll be disappointed so just gonna go for it when I get paid I reckon.

At the price I'd do the same. The XMB on my TV is fun, but doesn't add much. If you want ot spend more, then you can get more!

What is interesting to me, is that you so much for the price here.

Sure it won't be the best TV in the world, but a nice performing TV at a great price and with 3 year warrenty you have good security too.

Yeah exactly, I wasn't wanting to spend alot more than this is the first place but would have if I had to. But this deal seems fantastic so can't turn it down.

And I have just been paid so this is getting purchased today. Gonna have a look around some stores to see if they have any deals, like Comet, Currys, etc then if not, order on Play.com.

Oh oh, I've just seen it on Richer Sounds website for £406.90 with 5 year warranty! I'll be giving them a phone call to see if they have stock.

Will do, get some impressions up tomorrow at some point in between work and testing this out with PS3, 360 and Blurays. Also very interested to see how it treats DVD's and normal Sky feed since my current TV doesn't treat SD material too well as it's something I still watch alot.

Hoping to go on my own to pick this up, can't imagine it will be too big or heavy to carry myself. And I hope it fits in my wee 106 car!

Holy crap. This is awesome! Just plugged PC in via HDMI. Browsing the forums on 32" of HD goodness is amazing.

Quickly checked my Sky via Scart which looks MILES better than my old TV did so really really please with that. Gonna have a tinker about with the settings to fine tune it all now then check some Blurays and PS3/360. And I'll do some proper impressions later.

Good choice with the Sony. If I had found this thread earlier I'd have recommended that. The Panasonic LCDs have the IPS-Alpha panel (Sonys have SPVA instead) which has better viewing angles, but poorer contrast. Sony also give you much more control over the picture, whereas Panasonic for the most part make assumptions about how you want it to look.

                              Well that's good to know.

One thing I'm unsure of is when I plug my 360 in via VGA it doesn't let it run at 1360x768. It gives me borders down left and right and only shows 1280x768. What's the deal with that if anyone knows? PS3 works fine and is full screen through HDMI. I did check the settings and it was still set to 1360x768 on 360 dashboard so don't understand!

Just read the manual and found out VGA is only supported upto 1280x768. Kinda annoying, why would such a feature be missed out, I don't get it, my 3 year old LG tv from the start of the HD-Ready era could do VGA at full resolution.

It's hardly noticable when playing if I stretch the image but it's still not right so means I either need to go back to using ****ty component or buy an HDMI 360!
