If you can log into that (sounds like you already have the correct IP address), at least then we would know exactly what settings are active on the router.

We need to know what encryption is active (if any) for a start.
He says he unlocked it so my console should now connect like in the past. Unless it's run out of IP addresses or something, as if I count every wireless device that has been connected it's the 4 360's, 2 PS3's 1 Wii and 3 Laptops.

I'm assuming it's the later. If it was the former, I'd be worried unless you trust him not to use your connection for weird stuff.... Just thought I'd mention it, just in case like.
He is using remote access for sure, as he lives miles away from me.

I'm going to get him to come 'round somewhen soon so hopefully he can fix this as i'm pathetic with this stuff.

Thanks for all your help so far guys.

It could be a lack of IP addresses. TBH, from the symptoms, the first thing that occurred to me was an IP address conflict. But, presumably you don't have all of those devices connected to the router at the same time?

I would have only the Router and Xbox on and allow the Xbox to fetch an IP address dynamically (DHCP) - there should be an option in the system settings blade.

You shouldnt need to setup a password and IP address for 360 m8 if its hardwired as it will already be setup on your PC so you would just need to set it all up auto with the router so to me it sounds like hes blocking either the wireless or the port forwarding.

Id just shove your router in yourself, check your ISP website reset it and put the IP address in yourself and your password on the PC for the router and then enable wireless support (and put a password in for wireless). Thats the only time you would need your password is the encryption key for wireless so the console can connect. Also make sure UPNP is ticked in router setup page.

If it was me I wouldnt be anywhere near a host as I wouldnt want them getting into my PC at the drop of a hat or piggybacking my downloads for their own, way too much risk involved.

        Standard netgear details are here

I know, the system that he's set up for wireless devices is way to complex, i'm going to ask him to let me have control after this 'incident' is resolved.

If he can't find out what to do himself, then i'll reset it all myself.

Myself personally Malc i would probably do a full reset, as then you will have total control, you'll be able to get your head around the whole thing a bit more too.

Ok, i'm taking your advice guys, i'm going to set reset the Netgear Router myself, and set it all up. I presume the router log in administration username and password will reset to default? As I still don't know the one my idiotic mate changed it to.

I've decided to do it this saturday, in case I bugger it all up and nothing connects, then i'll have all weekend to try and sort it.

Because i'm resetting it all, I'll also need to connect 2 Laptops aswell as 2 Xbox 360's wirelessly, and the main PC wich is right by the router and is wired. How hard is this and how long will this take me? (will it give me some sort of step by step wizard as how to do it all after it's reseted?)

I'll need as much advice on this as possible, as if I change it all then my mate isn't going to help me again (he's jus like that unfortunatly).

I appreciate any help given, as I'm relying on you guys to help me set up all my stuff, and the fact that I know almost nothing about what i'm going to do.
              Many thanks,
              Malc.

              EDIT: My router says:

              Netgear
              54Mbps wireless ADSL Firewall Router
              DG834G v2'

This is on the bottom of it, if that's any help.

Ok, the most important thing is that you make sure you have the username and password for your ISP

Either on the paperwork from when you signed up or maybe in an email.

Before you reset your router you need this.

I always find it easiest to phone your ISP if you can get hold of them. I'll post all the things you'll need to ask for at some point tomorrow. Usually a simple question like "can I have all the details needed for logging into your service with a router, please" will illicit the necessary information.

You'll need to answer some security questions if you want the password over the phone.

I actually have almost the exact same router. It's really quite simple to set up. Could take as little as ten minutes for the input; a bit longer for encryption and setting up all the devices to connect.

Here are those details you require. The underlined titles are actually the hyperlinks on the left hand side of the web app page (192.168.0.1).

                          Basic Settings
                          • Username & Password (obviously!)
                          • Encapsulation: e.g., PPPoE, PPPoA
                          ADSL Settings
                          • Multiplexing Method: i.e., VC-based, LLC-based
                          • VPI (this is a number)
                          • VCI (ditto)
                          • DSL Mode: i.e., ADSL (G.DMT) or ADSL2+ (if you don't know which, just use multi-mode)
When setting up the wireless network, you need to use the best encryption available. Ideally, you'd use WPA2. However, I understand that the Xbox 360 wireless adapter does not support WPA2, so you'd better use WPA-PSK.

If you have any questions about setting up encryption, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Go to your ISP website and their should be a faq page of giving you all your settings on their as its the most important thing you will need. Either that or phone tech support/email em and get it. Dont do anything till you get that info as you end up in a viscious circle that you need to connect to the net to get the info but of course cant connect to the net till you get it. Alot of the general sites only give the most common ones used by the likes of BT and for example my ISP the ratios are different.

Sorry I haven't got round to attempting this yet. I managed to recieve a tennis ball directly into my right eye down at our local tennis club. So i've been out of action last weekend.

However I should be trying to do it somewhen this weekend. I'll let you all know if I have a go at it.

I may attempt this later on today. I've got my Pipex username and password. Is there any other details I need before reseting the router?

If it's possible, can I just keep the network open, and then put a simple password that you have to enter to connect to it? This seems much easier for all the consoles and laptops to connect as well as any future things that I need to connect it to.
