Has anyone had a problem with the 'winantispyware' pop up when using IE. I have run Ad-Aware, MS Spyware and Spyware Doctor.

Spyware Doctor is the only one that detects it but is still comes back to piss me off every time I am forced to use IE. How can I kill it for good, as I think it must be embedded somewhere?

Just wondering if anybody could give me a diagnosis and a cure for a problem i've been having lately..

Over the past week or so my computer has just been really slow, i wouldn't say down to a crawl but when i first log on i have to wait about 2 minutes before i can start using anything, and everytime i open a program (IE for example) there's a few seconds delay before anything actually happens, there's even delay's when i open favorites or hit enter for a web address etc, as well as the ever more frequent program not responding.

And disc cleanup doesn't work, it just freezes.

        I'm running XP pro
I've plenty of free HD space
Can't think what else might be relevant

If anyone can help then it'd be much appreciated.
        Regards.

Have you tried the usual things of running Adware, Spybot and a decent virus checker (or two) ?

I used spyware doctor and it turned up nothing, haven't got anything else, might pick up norton from work tomorrow if we've got it, give that a go

If anyone is having trouble with trojan.vundo or its variants, Spy Sweeper will kill it. It's shareware app on a 14 day trial but is the only one that I have used that will remove it.

I say this because this morning I woke to find a NAV alert for the said trojan. I checked with Symantec, downloaded their removal tool which failed to detect it even though they were flashing an alert at me. Twatty Norton, indded. Ran Spy Sweeper and now the alert has gone, so fingers crossed, the bugger has been vapourised. Ironically the pop ups that it delivers, sorry, forces on you are for anti-spyware software.

Probably a can of worms here, but can anyone recommend a good Antivirus program?

I'm about to reformat and reinstall everything, but I need a decent antivirus package. Any recommendations?

I use the free version of AVG and never had any problems with it. In fact, I've heard reports of it picking up problems which Norton, McAfee etc. failed to spot.

You can also buy a full version which apparently offers more features, support etc.

I've used McAfee for years, providing its configured right its fine. Others may disagree

Recently switched from McAfee (which I've been using for years up to v8.0) to NOD32.

NOD32 definately uses less system resources. However although I prefer this, McAfee's was a very good and solid AV checker. Also just installed Avast which seems the stronger of the free AV programs. Although I've yet to see it long term, but didn't rate AVG.

Stay away from Norton is the general rule of thumb.

The really nisty side was if you tried to go to the adaware site it deliberately blocked access and if you ran adaware it refused you access to download the latest ref file.

Only way around it was to use my uninfected laptop and get the latest ref file and run adaware to remove it.

Anyone else have this nasty program??

Has anyone had any problems with the 'W32.Netsky' worm and it's variants? My wife's mail address is getting spammed on a daily basis, with NAV doing it's job and blocking the attachment but short of requesting an addy change, I can't see it going away Virus writers = ****ing pond scum.

agreed, everyone should be using firefox really.

and (cough) non windows computers too!
