No you're thinking of Composite. That's not the same as Component.

Component is used for HD primarily. It slightly predates HDMI but the quality difference is neglible and usually more down to the TV than any actual quality difference. HDMI is more promoted because they can enforce their HDCP crippleware.

I think you've got Composite and Component mixed up. Component is nice HD quality, Composite is SD really bad quality. You'll need to get a Component cable like shakey_jake said.
