Nope, it's just sitting on a hifi shelf with nothing above it. Some people were reporting 60-70° so I thought I was doing ok. Are your fans inside? Are they silent? Power source?

The fans are inside the unit - 3 large PC ones stuck to the inside of the unit, hooked up to a cannibalised SATA drive case and a variable speed control. Works well because you can tweak the speed of the fans to reduce the noise.

Hmm. I think I'll skip. Thanks anyway.

It looks and works a lot better than it sounds written down. The SATA drive case also makes it look quite slinky.

Naturally if you've got it on an open rack, that should be the best anyways.

I have 120mm pc fan laying flat on my 607 connected to a 5v usb power adapter.
I no longer get any clipping at high volumes.
Onkyo amps do get stupid hot sometimes.
charlesr I have a spare Antec AV cooler if youre Interested drop me a pm.

Ah... So when you said "inside the unit" you meant your cabinet? I thought you meant you'd pulled the amp apart..... heheh

Oh god no, me and modding things like that don't get on.

This is actually stuck in the Available Unit and the most high tec thing about it was patching some cables together.

Huxley's cooler or even a desk fan might be worth a try for a quick diagnosis.

I've been running it for half an hour at volume70 (including zone2) which is about as high as I'd go, even for a party (I've set it as the max - the speakers start having issues at around 80). It has topped out at 55° so I'm not worried.

Thanks for the offer Huxley, but don't think I could hack anything else whirring away when I'm watching TV quietly.

And there's a fan inside which hasn't even come on yet (unless that's faulty).

The Faroujda DCDi in your amp is also a deinterlacer. You can play all your PS2 etc games with progressive scan.

I just pass it through and let the TV do all that stuff. Doesn't make sense doing two sets of scaling.

The Faroujda chip is much better than the deinterlacers in most (virtually all) TVs. It also has better up scaling.

For the price you've paid, might as well use it.

I thought the same when I used to connect Wii straight to the TV thinking there was no need for it to pass through a receiver. But the difference between scaling between my Samsung TV and my receiver (DVDO EDGE) was noticable even to casual viewers.

I bought a TX SR607 yesterday and after connecting my Wii component up to the amp, out to HDMI and i'm sure it looks worse. I guess there must be some settings i need to play with.

I've got a Panasonic PH9 which is pretty awesome at all the scaling stuff, but I'll experiment. Never realised the Fchip was meant to be so good.
