Converting a DC Arcade stick into a PS2 stick.

Firstly, is it possible. Secondly, what would you need to do?

I have a DC stick which was converted to be an Xbox stick, (thanks Geldra!) so I imagine it must work the other way round too.

Any ideas, or site with guides, or have any of you actually done this?

Aye it can be done with any system. You would have to get a ps2 controller circuit board. Then its just a matter of soldering the wires from the buttons on the arcade stick to the points on the ps2 controller board.

My brother did the arcade sticks i've seen converted so i cant go into great detail but thats the basic way of doing it.

My only concern with that idea (though it seems fine for the most part) is that the PS2 buttons are all analogue, not digital; isn't that going to be an issue?

depends if you use a fully analog donor ps2 stick or not. Just get a ps1 stick and you will be fine (doesn't even have to be in good nick either)

a cheap ps1 control pad, a dirty third party one from computer exchange or gamestation might work. All you need is the circuit board to have 2 points for each button on the control pad, so that you can solder the wires from the dc arcade stick buttons to them.

In fact i'd recommend using a the cheaper functioning pad you can find, if they are cheap it usually means its a lot easier to solder on them.

but if I use a pad, can I still rewire the joystick microswitches?

I mean, with the xbox one, Geldra just ripped out the dc stick innards and exchanged them with the xbox ones.

Using a pad would be brilliant, as I have a REALLY cheap one that came free with a dance mat. Has anyone actually done this conversion with a pad? If it could work then I would buy a soldering iron tmoro and give it a go.

I just dont want to ruin a beloved dc stick for nothing.

I've done an xbox one with a pad. My brother has done a gamecube and xbox one using the circuit board from pads. I have only ever used pads in fact!

I ended up using the gamester stick for the xbox to butcher, as I had originally bought it as a joystick, for ?10, and realised how turd it was.

Hmm, I may well be playing evo on a DC stick, like it was meant to be played - arcade style!

If you know of any guides or step by steps on this I would be most grateful. I had a look but didnt find anything.

taking this a step further is there room in the DC arcade stick to insert the circuit board from a cheapo wireless PS2 pad to create a wireless PS2 enabled DC Arcade Stick? The arcade sticks look cavernous but I haven't got one yet to take apart for myself.

Or is there room for both the innards of a standard PS2 pad and a GC pad to make it multi-format? I know there's other issues when using two separate formats (differing voltages, switches etc) but I just need to know if its possible.

How would this work? Would you have the wires from a joystick going into a multi-switch, which connected to both the PS2 and GC pads?

Well couldnt you just solder 2 wires to each button, with one set going to a ps2 pad, and one set to a gc pad - and just plug into the console you want?

There is enough space in the DC arcade stick to house an island in a sea of chocolate milk, with a fully inhabitable atmosphere, and possibly a small solar system.

It could definitely be done but could become messy if your not careful. There are two big tube like things in the middle of the stick which can be a pain the arse to get round, but once you've sorted that little problem out you'll be set.

So, to recap,

I can get a DC stick, rip out the existing PCBand replace it with the internals from a wireless PS2 pad and a wireless GC pad? So long as I'm tidy with my wiring and wire up each button to both boards it can be done?

I think I'm going to give this a go.

I'll post my results as and when I get them.
