I bought an SE stick a few months ago and swapped in Sanwa bits. When I first got the stick I did Mad Catz's job for them (i.e. the superglue mod) so the sticker's been cut thinly with a scalpel.
Anyway, recently the stick has been exhibiting a super annoying problem whereby the LT/RT buttons suddenly stop working and the joystick will also sometimes disconnect. Both these problems only go away if the joystick is unplugged and plugged in again. It's happened in ranked SF4 matches and also happened just now while I was playing against phillai.
The thing is, I think on SRK forum or probably the Mad Catz forum, a Mad Catz rep said the people with joystick problems would be 'looked after' even if they'd voided their warranties to do the superglue mod, although I can't find that post anymore.
I'm wondering whether it'll be easy enough to warranty this even though the sticker's been cut. Reason being this fault is not to do with my having opened the joystick and would have developed anyway regardless, as others have had the same problem (it is a known problem) and haven't opened their sticks. I mean, a warranty covers defects in workmanship not those caused by the end user. They may argue that my opening the stick caused the problem but if that were the case, why is it happening to others? Could I argue the case a bit more due to UK retail laws and the like?
As it stands, I could of course wire in some 360 pad guts but doing that defeats the point of having bought the stick in the first place. If I did that then I've basically spent ?70 on a plastic joystick housing with (crap) SF4 artwork.
What's the likelihood of them being ok with it? I bought it from Game so maybe I could take it back. The thing is I bought it from the Game website and then had it delivered to the Game store so not sure what they're like for returns from the website.
