    My Wii is snowing help!

    Hi all,
After reporting a few probs with some minor interference's on certain games on the way I finally recieved my component cable through today - note: there are NOT official cables.

After hooking it up there is now MAJOR interference on my set.
I have a u.s machine with official u.k psu but I am getting HUGE interefernece lines/looks like its snowing on the set.

I have tried the Wii and TV by itself, moving and reconfiguring things and all without luck.

    Any ideas guys!?

I have taken some pics I may post.

*edit* Have put the standard AV cables back in the and the picture is ok - but to be honest I think there is the distortion still there - just less of it/less prominent. Should I assume it's the console or the cables? They weren't particuarly pricy etc. but surely the amount of 'snow' I'm getting can't just be from the cables...can it?

Pics would be helpful. You are connecting the component cables directly to the TV, not through a switcher or Vdigi VGA?

At a guess I'd say it could be the graphics card. Is it still only on certain games or always?

This is on ALWAYS! The other stuff isn't particularly bad - it's virtually non-existent through the AV cables. This is through a non-offical set of components straight in to the set

you could wiggle the cable around a bit to see if it's a bad contact. There is a small risk of damage due to voltage spikes doing this mind.

I have no problem with mine on cheapy component cables. Do you ever use any other devices via component? maybe that part of the wii's graphics hardware is borked? I guess trying another cable might make a difference.

Yeah I've used my 360 and PS3 on the TV with no probs, could this be a f*ck up of the graphics chip? If so, mine's a U.S console, how could I get it repaired? I only JUST bought the unit from a member of rllmukforum.com and he's also a member on here.

I've read that if the GFX card/chip is buggered it just displays random pixels or that type of thing. Mine isn't doing that just displaying a lot of interference

Actually I've taken a close look at the Wii through the AV cables and I think it's doing the same thing - F**K! I've just bought this from a member on Rllmuk!
Here's hoping he'll take it back! Otherwise - how much does repair cost?
Any other ideas guys? anyone else had this problem?

I had GPU problems with mine ages ago, but it didn't look like that.

I'm not sure what the prob is, I've tried it in different rooms with/without my Wifi network on, everyhting that could interfere interefering and still no luck.
Shoud the Wii's fan be running any/all of the time??

*edit* I've no noticed when anything is loaded and I turn off the Wii it makes a slow sort of grunting/whinin noise down (sorry that was terribly described), as if the fan is buggered - should the fan move? As mine's not.

It should always be on, I think it is just slow when in the system menu etc.

Right, it's not on AT ALL! - Does this mean it could have overheated and damaged the system irrepairably? Is it something I can fix?

It's now also making a 'whirring' noise when powering down.

Any doubts, I'd just contact the seller and ask for a refund personally.

Yeah I have done, just waiting for a reply.
Have ordered one of those USB fans just to try that, but fear that if this is an overheating issues the damage has clearly been done - and done before I got it. As to be honest I haven't had a chance to use it a huge amount due to workload.
Nintendo Europe will send me a replacement U.S console for £30 but it will take 2-3months! Don't know why!?

Think power supply is causing problem - try it with normal power supply and stepdown rather than 3rd party one.

                              Hi mate,
I'm using an official UK PSU.
I tried the U.S lead with a stepdown (one that I used to use for my japanese saturn, dreamcast etc. and it blew the circuit in my house!).
Can I use a Maplin stepdown for the Wii?
