/me seriously rubs chin at lower resolution, and lower framerate maketh the game comments.

I have to say that whilst the higher res and framerates will obviously be a huge boon, the feeling of holding a pad and actually squeezing a trigger beats a mouse and keyboard for me any day. Even though it's less accurate. I'm stuck at work using a mouse and keyboard all bloody day, the last thing I need is to come home and do the same. Pad feels like move and shoot... mouse and keyboard point and click.

But this argument has been done to death many times over hasn't it

Homeworld 2 is the best new PC game this year anyway

Reminds me of the first time I saw Elite on a c64 monitor, looked much nicer on my blurry tv which hid all the faults.

Well that was 20 years ago

I'm just concerned that, just as Quake 3 became a complete joke when transposed from mouse+keyboard to the joypad, as the delicacy of control just wasn't there, that taking a game in the other direction will end up with it being far too difficult. Halo is a fine game on the XBox, and extra resolution won't hurt (though I wouldn't see it myself; graphically my PC can't keep up with an XBox), but control issues are bound to be a concern until we all know for sure.

That's what it's about really... hiding the imperfections. DivX on Xbox Media Player looks amazing compared to a PC on a big monitor running at a higher res. The lower res, interlace, and slight blurring hides the compression artifacts better than any clever post-processing algorithm ever could on a PC. Same with DVD playback. Always looks better on a dedicated set-top player thru a TV than on a monitor.

With Halo though, you are actually generating an image that is 1:1 meaning that it should look better at a higher res. I know GLQuake1 looked marvelous at 1024x768 even if the textures were incredibly filtered because of their resolution. PC Halo should look miles better than the xbox ver.

              Um, ok.

Maybe in an HDTV res progressive scan mode, but certainly not standard ****e PAL or NTSC.

                720p and upwards, yeah.

                480p? A joke.

I dunno if it became a complete joke... I'm pretty hardcore when it comes to playing FPS and I still found DC Quake 3 tolerable. I guess it's just a matter of how willing people are to forgive a little sluggish.

As for the joypad -> mouse & keyboard thing messing it up. I think you may be right. I was always under the impression that the pace of Halo was a result of the controls to some extent as in the game's pace suits the controls perfectly.

With a mouse said controls may feel very, very sluggish in comparison.

I'm also trying to figure out who's going to buy the port other than those of us aching for Halo online fun. Practically everyone who wanted the game must have it on the Xbox by now so what's the point in the single player campaign? (especially one that's pretty much unchanged)

Perhaps Bungie realise their game's pace suited that of a pad and will tweak it accordingly.

                    Unless they're stupid.
