Yeah 2 probs... this beta is notorious for being not great, in the reliability sector. Also, the main release, (the 400mb one) is only a 5 level demo. There was an earlier beta that was released which contains all the levels, but obviously this is more buggy.

        Hmm

Smells of a console port. YES to higher resolutions if they increase the resolutions of the actual textures. If not it will all feel a bit bland and horrible. Is this a direct x9 game? And if not, why not! Could have really gone to town with the halo engine and used some of the cool pc tech now available.

Important thing for me concerning Halo is the framerate. 60fps as it should be, plus the more responsive mouse and keyboard. Sorry to the man who prefers analogue joypads for fps games, but are you crazy?!?!?

If I was to hazard a guess Halo will not go down particuarly well on the pc fps scene. Lets face facts, its a two year old console game, and we have hl2, cod and others to enjoy this year. Then of course Doom III

It does require direct x 9.

SP still isn't a patch on the XBox version - no matter how often I play and will it to be.

H-man! as you yourself have pointed out, this is a beta release. I'm sure when the final product makes it's appearence, it's single player mode will be nigh on identical to its xbox parent in every way. I'm also sure that my logitech MX500 mouse, func 1080 mat and spanky matching black keyboard, will do the job of playing and enjoying the game just fine.

            Analogue pad??? OMG!! some people.....

Actually as a UT, UT2003, CS and Q2 veteran, I know exactly what he means. There was a really nice feel to Halo with the chunky pad in your hands, the controls worked really well. The pacing is all gonna be shot to **** on K&M, and the lack of triggers of course, at least we won't have to suffer with the apalling button placement on the xbox pad.

Space Cowboy... someone tell me that guy is banned already just for bringing down the tone and ****ing up the width of the thread.

As a veteran of this board, no he isn't; get a bigger monitor.

You'll see just how ****e the textures are on Halo if they don't improve them for the PC release (I don't see why they can't - I would surmise that developers keep high resolution, uncompressed originals of all textures, so it's just a matter of being arsed to do it). Honest. Watch it on a good plasma @ 480p, it shows what a shower console texturing more than often is (helped by the forgiving ****eness of tv CRTs).

rep - the beta runs at 100fps at 480p resolution on sc's machine, heh.

Bringing down the tone? After all the scorn he's poured over Xbox Halo over the last few years, it's been truly refreshing to hear him say that he loves it

Even if his phraseology is slightly questionable, it's the thought that counts

I've got no intention of running higher than 1280x960 on my 19" screen just cos some dimwit posts obscenely large & pointless in-line graphics.

Au contraire - they're in-game shots and entirely relevant. And yeah, we've all got 19inchers ta.

I haven't got a problem with them being relevant. This is a thread though not an art gallery. Links man, what's wrong with links?

That's true. Halo's released very soon and I doubt there'll any significant changes in those levels, which weren't as challenging or fun as they were on the XBox.

I have the same kit (apart from the black keyboard) and it's great ..... makes a big difference in multiplayer, especially clan matches. Single player is different tho. Having rumble and trigger buttons (I miss them too Choddo) can make all the difference.

Plus, even at 1600*1200 on my 19" monitor it doesn't look nearly as impressive as Halo does on my 30" TV. Some games just look better on tv's, feel more solid. (GTA3 is great example of this - output to my tv and played with a PS2 pad is the way to do it )

I gave in a few months ago. I love Halo, and the XB has done nothing but open new avenues of gaming for me. In my opinion well worth it...

And, to be honest I'd probably get this if it has 2 player LAN co-op but I don't want to get anything until HL2 becuase, I know I'll play nothing else.

                                We'll see...
