I do tend to switch everything off but things like setting the colour temperature to Warm2 isn't something that I would have bothered with so suggestions like that are really useful thanks.

No doubt I'll spend the next couple of months endlessly messing around with the settings anyway.

The Sonys are actually pretty good out of the box (after selecting Cinema mode). So unless you have test patterns and the like, it'd actually be better to leave alone because any tweaking will likely take things further away from ideal.

If you want to get your hands dirty with basic setup, you can download the AVSHD test disc for free (just Google it). It's an excellent disc, I use it for TV reviews.

Cheers, I have the DVE blu-ray which will allow me to calibrate it on a basic level but without the requisite hardware it's all down to what I'm able to read from the screens but I'm sure that will be enough for me.

Will the Cinema setting also be best for gaming or does it also have a game specific setting?

I recommend using the Game setting, because it cuts out some processing and results in lower input lag. I usually set the Game mode up to match the Cinema mode in terms of actual picture though.

I don't, because these are the parts of this process that specifically need measurements to be taken from the TV. Without any measuring device, leave the White Balance settings alone unless you can clearly see a colour bias (on LCDs it's often blue) in black areas (the R-Cut, G-Cut, B-Cut controls govern this, but like everything else in the CE Industry, even those names aren't standardised :eyeroll: ). Colour bias in bright areas is much harder for the eye to see.

As for Gamma, set it so that the picture looks suitably punchy rather than grey and milky.

Thanks for the advice! Blacks are currently OK so I'll leave white balance alone.

Warm2 seems to be OK after getting used to it after 24 hours.
