My 60GB original is still going strong and it definitley gets noisier in the Summer, mine is well looked after and I hope it will keep going strong.

I know of someone else who treats his terribly and its still going and yet another who did everything right and he's on his third one (finally replaced with a slim). Pure luck of the draw I'd say and i'm hoping if you haven't had a problem by now then it will be ok! (guess who's getting YLOD tonight!)

I've stopped using mine as a Bluray player though as I was worried about over using it.

Ordered a new slim this morning. As much as anything I now have both a US and UK capable Blu-Ray player in the house (Yay!), but I also want to preserve my 60GB. Also bought a 500GB HDD.

Looking forward to trying out the transfer utility, if it will work OK across different region PS3s.

I have a launch UK 60GB and the fan is noticably noisier this summer (kicks in very quickly too).

I'd miss the PS2 b/c but I'll seriously considering trading for a slim. Anyone know a rough ball-park figure of a trade-in value?

I would have thought you'd be better selling that model than trading it in?

Sold mine recently on here for ?185, doubt you'd get anywhere near that on a trade in mate.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll see how it goes not the weather is cooler. I've only really heard the fan kick in the last 2 times I've used it but they were both very warm nights.

Game will give you a ?140 for a 60GB model (same as my 80GB one) so better to sell if you can.

Mine definitely seems to have quietened down again now since the weather cooled off but I'm still VERY tempted to chop it in for an upgrade to a 250GB model

I'm still pretty tempted too. I think I'd genuinely consider ?140 trade as it's less hassle than selling privately (and Special delivery would be around ?21).

Hoe easy is it to back up your saves and stuff? And do you have to do anything 'complicated' before you can re-download any PSN content you've already paid for?

Sorry to hi-jack your thread Neil

It was me who bought Neil2k's 60Gb for the backward compatabilty feature. To be honest, I don't really notice any great difference noise wise between it and my 250Gb slim? The 60 is only ever being used for PS2 games, the slim for PS3 and blu ray.

If I'm honest I think the Slim makes slightly more noise Colin, it's a high pitched whine.

Not enough to put me off while watching a movie but noticeable.

I'll switch them both on at the same time tonight, one either side of my head and report my findings.

My 60GB is normally as quiet as a mouse, it's only recently the fan has had to kick in and caught my attention. Hopefully it is just the hot weather.

Mine gets noticeably loud now when I play a game that reads from the BD frequently (RDR being the most recent culprit) but overall isn't too loud.

Backing up data isn't too bad but I'm not sure if the save content thats locked gets backed up... I'd buy a Slim do the transfer then sell the original. As for PSN stuff all you gotta do it log on and go to ur download history and you can start to download and thats only if you didn't use the transfer utility, just remember to deactivate your account on the other PS3.

To deactivate just go to account management and there should be a system activation option and there it'll let you deactivate PSPs, games and movies.

I got my UK 60GB still but it started gettin' louder a few months ago and I just got scared and did a transfer of all the stuff to my slim. It's not been turned on since the only problem is now I can't play PS2 games upscaled nor watch any of my blu-rays... oh and RDR has an X/O glitch on Asian PS3s -_-
