PS2 online + mod chip. Can someone clear this up please?

I have a messiah 1 modded PS2 and have been trying to find out if going online is a possibility. I will only be using retail games (no copies). I have read that it is the chip that stops online from working, but i have also read that it is copied games that are the problem. Someone on here must have tried to play online with a chipped PS2. I would love to hear from anyone with a chip, particulary messiah 1 as there are quite a few games coming out soon that I like the look of online and was thinking about buying a standard pal machine, but this doesn't solve how to play us only online games. Any help much appreciated. I have done a search and looked on the FAQs and found nothing concrete but please direct me if I have missed it. Thanks.

My PS2 was chipped, and it worked fine online. I dunno about playing copies online though, never tried that.

Not that there is a lot to play online mind

Yeh. Not bothered about playing copies online. What chip do you have? Do you have a Pal machine? UK network adapter?

My machine has a messiah 2 chip and it can be switched off by holding down reset for a few seconds or something. That way the PS2 can go online in a "vanilla," state. Can the Messiah 1 be deactivated this way?...

Do sony ban your console from going online again if they do detect chips or will they just block your attemp?

as only certain games use the sony portal I guess if they did start banning it would only be for those games.

At the moment afaik they do not detect mod chips. mod chip detection would have to be built into the game, too.

Has anyone tried any of the new EA games online? I heard they had some new protection in them.

If the game has protection and bans your NTAS (i think thats what it's called) code then you're ****ed.

hmm. Not what i wanted to hear. Looks like I will have to get a non modded console as well then.

You had any EA games to test or any games known to have NTAS ?

not yet and the only game to detect chips i've heard is everquest, its the ones you'll have to pay to play most likely will detect.

razz, i thought it was dnas protection ?

Yeh, I thought it was dnas protection too. From what i have been reading it is not even looking at modchips, just blocking copied games.

Edit. From doing some more reading, it appears that the new EA games block you from going online unless you can put your chip into sleep mode. That isn't possible on a messiah 1 chip is it?
