Consolised MVS Repair - Help required

I've just picked up a faulty consolised MVS system for a very decent price and I'm looking to get it repaired.

I've not had chance to plug it in yet but the seller has said that the SCART connection has been pulled away from the underside of the main board, which you can just about make out on the photos below:

I'm assuming all that is required is a little soldering, but that's out of my league. Does anyone know of any places or people in the UK that would be able to fix this up for me?

Not quite sure why someones soldered it like that when they could have just put everything on a jamma connector and plugged it in, thats some damn nasty work. It's either an MV-1FZ or MV1-AX motherboard so I guess the first thing to do would be to get the schematics from the manual and see where its tapping the RGB from the video hardware pins. Any loose connections or poor soldering?

No idea, I don't want to probe too much in case I dislodge anything

I'm hopeless at soldering - I seriously wouldn't know where to start.

OK, hooked the machine up tonight and I'm amazed to report that it seems to work fine. The picture wobbles very occasionally, which I assume is to do with the wires not being properly covered and perhaps making contact with the board/other wires.

But as for picture, it's actually better quality than my RGB-modded AES:

I'm still tempted to get someone to tidy it up, ideally I'd like to have a proper AES-style SCART socket on the side of the machine rather than a hard-wired cable that is crudely soldered onto the main board.

Cool, yeah RGB on MVS is a little better than the home system in my experience. If not a scart connection on the side, a 5 pin DIN the same as the homecart system uses, with the same pinout, you could then just buy an RGB cable for it from ebay and it'd look a lot cleaner than a 21 pin scart socket on the side.

Yeah, that's ideally what I'd like to get.

You sound like you're a capable chap with a soldering iron - how difficult would it be to do? Would you be willing to help me out, for the right price?

I'm really not, my soldering is pretty basic I can get by but fitting the socket I'd probably make a pigs ear of. hah.

                  Shame.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for modders!

Have you tried getting hold of Chaotic Jelly??

Not sure if he's still about these days but I'm pretty sure he'd be able to help out...his skills are teh shiz

Best link I can find is this one...

His old site seems to be down so not sure if he's still doing things these days.

I emailed him the other day actually, didn't get a reply. I'm guessing from his lack of activity that he's busy elsewhere at the moment.

                        Damn that's a shame

I had tried emailing him a few months ago about an RGB modded PC-Engine (he had some spare stock last time I spoke to him) but didn't get a response either.

He may have stopped totally then...which will be a huge loss as his RGB Cable for my Saturn is a thing of beauty

Yup. I've used him in the past and he's always been excellent. Hopefully he's just going through a busy patch with life and will be back in the fullness of time.

He hasn't posted on here for a while, has he?

No it's been quite some time

Not sure if he was a member on any other sites though otherwise I'd suggest trying there as well.

Oh thinking about things are you a member on Arcade Otaku Duddy??
Plenty of peeps on there with some awesome Soldering & cable skills, might be worth a look
