for handbrake with DVDs try:
container mp4
anamorphic strict
cropping auto
videofilters off (unless you have any interlaced stuff and then turn decomb to default)
codec h.264
framerate same as source
average bitrate 2000 kbps (single pass)
Audio, you'll have to decide - I use AAC DPLII because I stream to the xbox, but if you are going to a media player, it will do AC3 DD, so use that.
I have no experience with Blu ray ripping.Last edited by charlesr; 03-08-2012, 11:13.

Will get that setup.
I won't be ripping Blu's or HD-DVD this is simply to get rid of the stacks of DVD's & make a way to get at them easier.

Isn't scraping getting info/images for the shows/episodes to lay them out in a visually appealing way? That's what a 'scrape' is on XBMC, anyway.

If you don't mind not having any media info and just selecting from a list of files then pretty much any of the players mentioned will be fine.
I've been using XBMC for over 10 years and XBMP before that so have pretty much got used to it.
Here is a WDLXTV 'skin' using movie sheets

Only negatives so far are the lack of aspect ratio control and the HDMI CEC seems a bit dodgy. I'd like to be able to stretch a 4:3 image to widescreen, even the PS3 had the option to zoom or fit to screen. And for some reason I can't use the direction arrows on the TV remote, but the Play, Stop, FF etc all work. Strange.
I shall fiddle with it some more over the course of the week and see how I get on.
