Nice if you don't have anything else but a bit late now that my TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, iPhone, iPad etc all have it and are silent.

Do you still need to be connected to Live to use it?

I don't know. I've only tried it on the Xbox One.

And it's pretty good. Connects fast and remembers where you were at (unlike the built in media player when connected to plex server).

So the Xbox One is now a decent media player.

The app has always been free it's the servers pass add ones that cost money.
Microsoft need to update their media app to pick up album art and resume play and I`ll be happy as larry.

It was free to install on the Xbox One, but didn't let you access your PC's media unless you had a plex pass (it did let you on the 360). Now it's free to use without the plex pass on the Xbox One too, so you can access all your media.

Thanks for the update I shall have a play, I wonder if it will play nice with a the plex server available for my nas?

It looks amazing. Only problem is my Nas is transcoding everything so its unwatchable. I have direct play enabled in the Xboxone side but cant see how to turn it off in the server.

Its a limitation of the Plex app for my Nas which is a real shame as it looked so nice :-(

Are the any transcoding options? Or is it a known "feature"?

If your NAS is ARM based it will struggle with transcoding.

There are options. High, low automatic etc.
The Xbox app has the option for direct play but the server is ignoring it.

smouty mine is the intel version I don't want it to transcode as the Xbox One is fine playing 1080p MKV files.

Looks like an older build of Plexfor my Nas may be the answer.

Could you confirm that the MKV is able to be played back natively on the XBOne?
If the target device cannot play it for whatever reason, usually codec related or incompatible profile settings in MKV then Plex has no option but to transcode.

Yup all the files on the Nas play on the Xboxone via the normal media app.
The older version of plex server seems to work without transcoding. Only problem is it wont let the nas sleep. I pulled the network cable and it still stays running. A few tweaks to go but looking good.

                            Update -
After trawling the plex and Synology forums Its a no go unless I want the nas running 24/7 which kinda defeats the object.

Maybe time for a home server build on the cheap?
