Quick question - is there anything that can be done to better calibrate 3D images? I presume any general picture enhancements are reflected in a 3D image as well as 2D, but is there any added goodness to be squeezed from 3D?

As it turns out I'll have my keys on the 22nd, but personal circumstances have meant I won't be about / settled for a little while after that. Definitely let me know next time you are about though!

Yes. The improvements in 3D are bigger than in 2D. Greyscale tracking in 3D is usually all over the place with tinted pictures.

Calibration in 3D involves pre-tinting the image coming out of the TV so that it creates a neutral one when it's seen through the tint of the 3D glasses. Almost no calibrators do it though. I do since we've been experimenting with it from day one (for HDTVtest reviews of 3D displays), so it's no problem.

There are some displays that track Greyscale so badly in 3D that it's not worth your time or expense having them calibrated in 3D, but usually you can see a big improvement.

Would be interested. If only I lived down the smoke. If you ever do a UK tour let me know.

Another quick question for you Lyris - I have a JVC DILA 3500 Projector. It has no colour controls and so can only be half calibrated. Can you let me know how much you would charge via PM for this. I watched Prometheus on it last night and it just looked horrible, reviews of this PJ suggest it should look good? I am on the south coast near Portsmouth/Southampton

                PM sent!

A big improvement should still be possible (even if the end result won't be perfect) by calibrating Greyscale, Gamma, and also compensating for the colour tint of the screen.

The very nice Mr Lyris visited my pad this afternoon and very quickly transformed my PJ picture from average to great. While there he also tweaked the PC Graphics card and even a few settings in the Sony Bluray Player. Overall I would rate his service as excellent and would highly recomend picture calibration to everyone

Glad to hear it, Paul, and thanks for the thumbs up - it definitely needed it.

if your UK tour extends at some point to Northern Ireland, i'd be well up for you professional support

I've had some requests in Ireland and can easily hop over to the North, whereabouts are you? I should be doing another set before Christmas...

Will you make it to Scotland before Christmas?

Actually, there's a good chance I'll still be here early November.

OK, just a heads-up: I'll be in London again nearing the end of November. If you're interested in the ISF treatment for your flat panel display or projector, give me a shout

Awesome. I should be a-ok for a visit come the end of the month, but let me try and get my stuff sorted first - need to ceiling mount the projector and set up a screen first!

(don't suppose you know much about ceiling mounting a projector in a flat?)
