    Hehe, never a dull day.

Shame about that adapter being a duff though. I don't have that particular model, I have another one from play-asia (see above post for link). Got to say that it's absolutely ace, used it with loads of PC games. Supports every single button/stick/pad on the dualshock perfectly and 2 player as well. I think I have the same thrustmaster as you. It's a great PC pad, but the dpad is a bit cack for me (almost as bad as xbox's ). If you can get a dualshock working, it is the way forward.

I'll try that playasia thingy if I can't get any joy returning the play one back to them.

Like you say though, the thrustmaster pad is adequate, but far too big and the d-pad is so abysmal as to take your breath away.

I was in a shop in italy a while back and they have about 20 MS Sidewinder USB pads for about 6 quid each, are those any good? I'lll prolly get some purely on price and my other old souncard gameport sidewinder is pretty good, ms peripherals generally seem sound, bit sad theyre pulling out of the peripheral market for pc.

The trouble with Sidewinders is their D Pads are worse than the Xbox's. I have the tilt movement one and an original, both are pretty ropey.

I also didn't think much of the PS2 adaptors, they do lag and it is very noticable to me. Not enough to be blatantly unfit for sale, but enough to knock timings off.

For emulation I still rely on my trusty PC Sprint Pad. A 6 button pad almost identical to the SNES pad.

Some of the old adapters certainly did. My brother has a PS2 to PC convertor, and when playing fighting games there really is a nasty pause, I know exactly where you're coming from.

The new adapters though are perfect. They've sorted the problems out, and they have absolutely no lag whatsoever, not even a tiny bit that you'd only notice when playing shmups or fighters. My PC thrustmaster has gone in a drawer now, and I can't see myself ever going back to it tbh.

What one are you using Vaipon?

I had the 1st one from Play which didn't even work in XP. Then i got the new model which worked in XP but only with hacks and lags a bit. Both USB models by Soyo i believe.

The one I'm using is this. Works perfectly in XP (the OS I'm using), and no lag whatsoever. It even has a dance mat mode if you require it. It's quite small too, much more compact than many of the bulky convertors you see. It works fine without the need to install any drivers, and every single button/stick/pad action/direction is supported. There is a driver disk that comes with it though if you want access to the rumble functions of the dualshock. Top quality product. I think play-asia have just started shipping a 4 player version of it too.

Think you have probably just answered Chadruharazzeb's problem there too.

I just ordered the Joytech one from Play.com, has anyone used/experienced one?
As id like to know if it lags at all, as I want to use it for 2d fighters?

I have a Sidewinder, but the d-pads rubbish for fighters ft:

Thats the one i have, im using xp aswell, i get lag, but only noticable when doing special moves in fighters (which are impossible) i think they just like some pcs and dont like others. I have an asus mobo, that might make a difference but i dont know.
Does any one know a work around for this eg: some way of changing usb timings??

I'm using the Logitech Dual Action one thats shaped like the PS2 controller

Every USB convertor for console pads I've used has done all sorts of weird and wonderful things to games ( and XP too but I'll spare you those woes ), with some emulators refusing to recognise the pad full stop

Since using the Logitech I haven't looked back and can't recommend it enough

I use that adaptor too and get the lag. I'm using Win2k.

As you say, its mostly the fighters that suffer.

I used to have one of the original Sidewinder pads, and the d-pads on that thing was pretty good. Not as good as the one on the Model 2 Saturn pad, but it did the job without any hassle. My friend bought one of the more recent ones (this was a few years ago) and they totally screwed up the d-pad on that thing.

The only prob I found with my Sidewinder was that it used to collect a lot of dirt under the d-pad, and it got to the point where I couldn't push left without a huge effort. In some ways I wished I'd kept it and cleaned it out, but oh well.

Currently I have a Thurstmaster Firestorm Dual Analogue. It's certainly adequate for most games, except for games that require heavy use of the d-pad, because it's terrible. The movement is limited, and I can't seem to get comfortable using it. I do like the idea of the 3rd set of buttons on the back of the back, although I'm now yearning for analogue buttons in their place.

I'm using the Super Dual Box also and it's perfect - used it on Win2k/XP and no problems.

I've seen the PC pad light and got my PS2 adaptor from pay.com
only 7 squid and is also a 2 way adaptor.
At last Vice City as its meant to be played.

I wouldn't bother with it if you've got XP running.

                                Goddamn POS.
