Transcoding I think is now default on the server software - have a look in the Mac / Plex settings.
OK, i've tested my xbox live settings like in that thread and I have no issues..

What I have done though is rebuild my libraries in plex and that has fixed my mkv issue. I've also started to playback a large 1080p mkv file and changed the settings to 2mbps 720p and that has cured my buffering issues.. the 360 is connected to my Bang & Olufsen CRT.

    Thanks.

If you are only going to use the 360 for media playback I would be tempted to sell it and buy either an Amazon fire stick or a Chromecast both which support Plex and are quieter/less power hungry. You should be able to get the ?35 that each of them cost although since someone has worked out how to run Kodi on the fire stick, prices have gone up.

I have a B&O Beocenter 1 in the bedroom so utilising non hdmi was my object.

I've got a firestick with Kodi, apple TV the whole nine yards.

Plus I can give third strike a whirl when the mood takes me
