    Unlikely they would even try to - Sony have made it clear more than once that they don't really see any difference between someone importing a legitimate copy or playing a pirate.

      I'm just surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

      As soon as online games went pay-per I was expecting anti-import and anti-copy measures to be built in from day one.

      There is the recent Live update too, that is more more aggressive when it comes to detecting chipped machines.

      Its weird though, dnas seems to detect the region of the machine rather than the mod chip.

      You would have thought if Sony were able to detect PS2 mod chips in software they would have built anti-piracy protection into their games by now. Maybe they haven't found a way to sniff the mod chips yet.
