Gamecube mod. RGB cable question

Well... one more day of waiting and I get my long awaited Gamebit.
And then my remodding quest begins.

My local electronics store only sells 5mm LEDs (well... they do sel 3mm but simply never have them when I'm there).
Question is: Can I use a 5mm LED in a Gamecube? (Is it at all possible?)

BTW, is it possible to hook up one of my PC's "Lazer LEDs" (which require 12v)??
That was just a general question... 'cuz I just like light-mods.

No dont - only use the 3mm type I linked to before, a 5mm will not fit into the transparent bit on the machine's casing and using a 12v one will draw too much current.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, I just wanted to say thanks (especiallly to Saurian), I got around to doing my jap cube tonight, and it went perfectly following the advice on this thread.

I forgot to get some kynar though, so pulled apart a dma-100 ide cable which appears to be exactly the same
