Laptops - pls recommend me one !

    Hello. I really fancy buying a lap top with the ability to do the following ;

    CD Burn
    Wireless Broad Band Connection
    Small-ish size
    Look fine

Money wise isn't too much of a concern but around 1,300 would be ideal. I wondered about the new apple powerbook ?? I would be linking to a iPod so would it make sense to get one ??

Also, would it be cheaper to buy online or in the local shops ??

    VERY confused - help !!!

If you can afford it get a Powerbook... those 12" models are seriously cool...

If not just get an iBook, they're pretty great. After using one for nearly a year I'd find it hard to recommend a wintel laptop PC.

Either a 12" ibook or powerbook with a wireless extreme card installed fits your criteria.

I also recommend the most excellent 12" Ibook for ?849.00 or a higher spec if you fancy it. Its very small and light, compared to PC based lappies and oh so pretty.

      Not regretted the purchase once.

Yeh, saw that in today's T3. Would it be cheaper to buy online (Official Apple site?) or somewhere like curry's et al ??? I imagine the prices may be comaprable everywhere......

Another recommendation for the iBook (or PowerBook, Apple laptops are da b0mb!!11!).

I doubt there would be much price difference from Apple's site and other stores. Apple are sneaky bastards and have kinda price fixed their products. If you want one cheaper try eBay. The price's in America are absolutely shocking (especially with the weak $) and I may be mistaken but I think computers are exempt from import tax (don't quote me on this). Be careful though on eBay. Recently there's a been a whole lot of people's accounts being hacked and Apple stuff being offered at at prices too good to be true. Try looking at someone's feedback first and if they accept something like paypal.

Another recomendation for an iBook here. I only bought one around 2-3 weeks ago, but have really enjoyed using it so far. I personally opted for the 14inch version however, as the 12inch screen was just to small for my liking.
I also had a problem with my first iBook, as can be read about it the iBook thread, but hopefully you wont have the same bad luck.

Lets all have a group Apple hug

Seriously i love my ibook, best laptop ive ever had (after 3 wintel lappys) i even bought ilfe 04 last week and that gets a vote also !

I have the ibook 12" G4, if i had the money i would have got the powerbook but i had bought a centrino laptop the month before so i had to compromise with the ibook.

Prices are the same pretty much everywhere, i belive John Lewis give a 2 year warranty free tho.

Ohh and id recommend extra ram, my ibook was really snappy when i first got it, now i have all my music, pics, apps etc on it it needs the extra ram (have 512 comming)

?1.300 will get you a 12" combo drive Powerbook or for ?150 more you could get a 12" Powerbook with a DVD burner

Or save yourself a few quid and get a top of the range 14"ibook for about ?1,200.

Hi guys. Finally got a iBook G4 14 incher. Very nice......however when I connect to my netgear hub using slot one (broad band obviously) I sometimes get randomally disconnected or have problems connecting to my BT broadband.
Any advice as what could be the problem ??\Cheers

                            Pros and cons?

                            Simple really.
Mac OSX is far, far superior to any Windows OS.
The OS is the engine or heartbeat of a computer.
If you have the cash, want it for creativity as opposed to games (although more and more games are coming out, just in a PAL style 6 month delay) then a Mac is the only way forward IMO.

                            And they look damn nicer.
Especially the Powerbook with it's Apple logo that glows on the outside casing
