Cheers for all the hel peeps in this thread - you're all diamond Geezers

    Just to recap -

Action Replay 4 in 1 cart will be fine for -

    Use as a memory card
Running games that need 4MB Ram card
Running games that need 1MB Ram card

    Sound groovy?

I think it also plays game from any region - that would be the fourth feature hence the title 4-in-1

Remember you still need the ROM cart for KOF'95 it should come bundled with the game - if it doesn't then don't buy it as you won't find the ROM cart anywhere else.

Your welcome - any chance to talk about my beloved Saturn(s)

There is a KOF 95 finishing today on evil bay in case you haven't seen it - only at ?9.99 right now.

Slightly off-topic/on-topic but does anyone know of a site in the web that has a scanned copy of the original Saturn instruction manual? Or maybe someone here has one they can scan??

            Here's hoping.

            TT

I thought the contacts were dodgy on my Saturn for a couple of years. Then the internal battery died, and I replaced it. I had been cursing my backup memory cart because it too seemed to have lost all its data. But with a fresh battery in the Saturn, the memory cart suddenly came back to life, and I haven't had a moment's trouble getting the Saturn BIOS to recognise that it is plugged in since. I think there's some dependance on the backup battery in that area of the Saturn motherboard. This is with an offical Sega backup memory cart.

So if you have trouble making your Saturn work with a memory cart it could be worth changing the console's internal battery.

Also worth noting, I have also got a 5-in-1 cart (the extra 1 is a D25 connector on top to connect to a PC), which I bought purely for the multi-region function. My PAL copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga won't play on my PAL Saturn when that cart is in place, it displays a message telling me to remove the cart. It works fine with the official Sega cart.

Interesting facts there Taurine, I've been having a couple of cart issues recently and my internal battery is dead. Think I'll give your suggestion a whirl. Interesting about Panzer, I've never tried it with my 4 in 1. You can never go wrong if you stick with official memory cards imo. I use the 4 in 1 for an extra backup and to boot my imports. I stick to the official sega cart for everything else.

Tbh a saturn is so easy to mod that it's not worth bothering with the import carts. Unless of coure you don't want to hack around in the internals, which is fair enough I suppose.

                    OK, some battery questions -

Where do I get one from? How much should they be? What tools/knowhow do I need to fit one? Soldering etc?

CR2032 from any games shop/ebay and you need a coin or screwdrive to pop it out of it's socket.

I think they are only about a squid each, or you can get several at once from evilbay - they are just held in by a small meal brace - you just pop it out/in - I just use my finger to do it

Yeah I'm funny like that I tend to go for cart/disk dezoning as opposed to modchips or in the case of the saturn a mod. I have a thing about cutting holes and the like into the console itself. However I have no such love of the PS2 or XBox which will eventually be modded to buggery.
