Why Are Torrent's So ****?

I'm trying to Torrent some stuff at the moment, and I consistently get **** speeds!

What is the benefit of Torrenting over the normal downloading process? Surely people can simply host it on their server with some mirrors and just switch every once in a while? Torrenting is crap. I'm trying to get something at the moment about 260Mb, and it started ok with about 20k download (which is still pretty **** for a 500k connection) but now it's down to 0.8k and it's been like that for ages.

I'm using ABC, but it does exactly the same using BitTorrent, and I've tried TorrentStorm as well!

No idea, I always get 20-40kbs download speeds using Bittorrent.

Crappy seeds perhaps?

I use Shareaza myself, usually get a consistently good speed on that if there are plenty of decent seeders about.

I had the same for ages, took days to download anything changed to azureus and its 110k all the way

Like any P2P system, the speed you get stuff is entirely dependant on how many sources there are.

Bittorrent is never anything less than maxed out when I use it - oof!!

Dunno about you mate but i always gets 240 kb a second most of the time i can't max because i have to upload

It's really good for getting game trailers like the new burnout 3

I download 24 every Weds, 350mb and it does in under 12 hours, start it going at 7am and it's done by the time I get home
Lot quicker than Kazaa !
And I just have a 128k line

OK, I'm installing Azureus in an attempt to get a decent Torrent speed, and in the installation process it gives me the opportunity to test Port 6881 which is used for the Torrents. I click the test button, then after a couple of seconds it says 'Testing port 6881 ... NAT Error'.

Is this something I can do nothing about?

I think it is open. I only have that screenshot to go by.

I am downloading an 85Mb file as a test, and so far it has been consistently @ 20k which is a massive improvement over what it has been. Uploading at 19k too. Looks like Azureus is probably the best bet for people having problems like me.

If you are on a cable connection then you need to cap that upload speed lad, as it will kill your download if you are uploading at max speed.

I got mine set to upload no more than 10K a sec, I suggest you do the same and you might see a download speed increase .
