I sucked tonight. Gravity0 nailed me, as I guessed he might; Moodmon pretty much nailed me though Ryu and Makoto nearly got one up on him; and then I got caned by E Randy Dupre's PAD SKILLZ. What's worse, the two times I beat him, I was Ken.

    Ken.

I only play Ken when I'm desperate.

GG's, everyone. Really enjoyed them tonight. It's far better playing with you lot than random nerks - guaranteed a selection of different characters to fight against instead of the same one over and over and over and over, for a start, but I also come away from them feeling like I've learned stuff. Also had some really enjoyable games against a guy called Benny B1anco earlier on in the day - he knew he was kicking my arse, so gave me the second round of every game to piss around and experiment in, before polishing me off in the third.

gravity0 - Sorry I didn't stick around for more, but I'd been looking forwards to having some games against Paleface all afternoon, so had to leave when he appeared.

Paleface - Most of those wins were complete and utter fluke on my part. Fapping about trying to pull off specials and ending up cancelling them into SAs by accident, that sort of thing I wouldn't worry, though - g0 and Mood taught me not to get cocky and mistake my luck for skill.

Mood - Again, sorry there weren't more, but I'd been sat in a stupid position for ages and my knees were going to snap in half if I didn't get up and move around

I seem to be able to fluke wins with Chun Li and Elena every now and again, even though I'm not entirely certain what I'm doing with them (especially Chunners - haven't got a frigging clue). I think I've found my core characters now, though - the ones I'm going to try and learn properly. So apologies beforehand if I'm playing anyone here and don't change the selection as much as I probably should.

Had some sweet games with firsty tonight

I really need to use someone other than Elena, but she's the only one at the moment that I'm reasonably good with.

          Elena is sooooo confusing :S

My left thumb is numb after about 50 matches with Firsty + Mood. Some nice matches, plenty of parry/timing practice for me.

When using the pad I can only win with the shotos. How good's that?

I need a stick more than a shag atm.

What's this? Teh Singh buying a stick? Those are nice though - I'd go for the vermilion one myself, in honour of the Jet Vermilion from F-ZeroGBA that took me weeks to unlock.

I hate Elena, I totally boycott her when choosing a character even. I think I've only been her twice. Ever.

I quite like her. It seems to be the fact that she's incapable of standing still that throws people off balance when you're using her against them - makes it difficult to see what's coming next.

I think that why I like her, I've not really got her moves down to a t yet, but when you can string something together it looks pretty good . She's also got a nasty overhead kick that tends to confuse a lot of people. She's apparently pretty easy to parry against though

I'm just not used to her. It was good practice. Her crouching MP is a great opener for many combos. Some of her moves have terrible recovery but they come out fast so you can catch people off guard.

Good matches jassi! I'll get you with Hugo next time though! On a side note, how have you been practising your parrying(multiple hit)?

Aye, GGs to everyone I played last night. Finally got some decent connections in with Paleface, E Randy Dupre, Moodmon, and Spiral Blue from Rllmuk. Would have played more but I was shattered.

                      Thanks for the fun games.

@Venom: I used to have 3rd strike on in the background during summer in practice mode as i had no one to play...so for a "laugh" i used to see if i could parry some stupid stuff like Super Arts.

Basically first i started with recording the dummy to throw as many fireballs as i could in the permitted time. Pressed "play" then tried to survive the round and get the timing down. Then I just upped the difficulty by recording the dummy to do EX fireballs, then Super Fireballs...then gradually went over to other stuff like hurricane kicks\dragons\auto multi hit combos.

When i came online and saw some repetative stuff i was getting beaten by, i would emulate it and learn how to parry against it next time. Its just a matter of parrying move X certain amount of times and eventually you will get comfortable and confident in parrying all the time. I dont even have to think about how to parry some stuff...it just happens.

GG's anyway...and yes, your Hugo was possessed today. Quite a good connection the 2nd time i joined you this morning, only did that as no one else seems to be awake.

Thanks for the tips! I started playing SF3 from New Generation and then stopped playing from 2nd Impact so my parrying's a bit off at the moment! Here's a question for you:

What do you do against skanky Urien players!?

                          Comment

I also noticed that the connection was really good today too! Just don't be using the net!

ALEX and Ibuki = DEAD URIEN

If you are somewhat profficiant with these two, Urien players will have an extreme uphill struggle against these characters. With Alex just dont give him a chance to breath, dash in powerbombs, stomps, do the DDT on him close as he wakes up (HCB+lK), overheads etc.

One of the things you got to watch out for Urien is his airfireball setup. Basically, learn how to parry through that and as your falling HK while falling towards a recovering Urien (from shooting of the fireball). With ibuki...as your familiar with 2nd impact use the air mk so as you land and hit the Urien, you can go into her chain combos.

Also with Ibuki, abuse that overhead MK like there is no tommorow. Its so fast a turtling\ducking Urien who is probably charging up for a Charge dash will get hit...may be even twice. After this try and sweep them with HK and press HK again to juggle them. Also use her MK slide to catch him out.

Also, learn to parry his Charriot tackle attacks...but the thing is...Urien is even more harder to fight online because of this. Unless its a smooth connection you wont be consistantly parrying it because of the speed and distance it moves. Urien is the scrubbers choice online nowadays...ive hardly seen any Chunli's these last few weeks.

But Urien is most dangerous because of his grab...so a few ways to avoid it is

                              1) dont stand over him unless your gonna fake him out with a move or hop\overhead in time as he WILL 100% grab you in close proximity.

2)Dont get in the corner EVER...this will just provide him a skank opportunity to set up an Aegis on you and try and fluke a high\low hit on you.

Even if he grabs you midscreen...this is also dangerous for you. Because of his unblockable Aegis reflector set up. If you dont manage to do a recovery roll after this throw, they will throw an Aegis over your body and hop over to the other side to make sure it hits you. So if he grabs you midscreen or away from the corner...you MUST do a recovery roll (press down\continually press down after getting knocked down) to stand even half a chance of escaping this trap.

End of the day, even by reading the above tip...you wont be able be fully aware or at least try and avoid anything, unless you get punished by it...a lot. Its a learning process, but once you see exactly what someone is doing...lets say some one who abuses the same tactic\trick over and over...once you have figured what their game revolves around, and you start avoiding it\parrying, this panics the "scrub" as its not goin his way. This is where you should try and capitalise on it.

In general, let a Urien try and come to you, but not to close that he can throw you, and not to far so he can continually throw random tackles and fireballs at you. He is a hard character to fight against...but if your fighting an actual Urien expert...say your prayers and hope its over quickly.

Also..Ken is good against Urien too. He can do what Alex and Ibuki do too, and has more options. But Ken is too good against everyone anyway.

Thanks for that! Ive just been looking at the Japanese Gamest Guide book I got a few years back and it's got some insane stuff for Urien! I think I'm gonna learn how to use him properly for when I come across scrubbers! Still, he does have some advanced stuff!
