Just to add, as I did not spot it in any earlier posts - you will be able to buy credit from certain stores to be redeemed against DLC and marketplace things on live. Therefore if you really want to stay anonymous you do not even need to reg your credit card :

No credit card: In fact, no credit card is required for almost everything about Xbox Live, but especially in Xbox Live Marketplace. Instead of using a credit card you might not have (or might not want to use online), you can purchase prepaid cards at various store locations that give you a set limit to spend.

Here is a tip, your xbox.com forum name is now your gamer tag if you have your passport linked, but, you can also now create yourself a forum name and .net passport and effectively reserve that gamer tag for when the 360 arrives.
