I got a Guardian up to level 27 and a Minstrel up to level 33, then I went away for a week to see relatives and upon getting home I just could not muster the enthusiasm to get back into it. I really enjoyed it up to that point, and it looks and sounds lovely, but it ineviteably becomes more and more of a grind the further you get in, and after FFXI and WoW I just couldn't stomach more standing around 'LFF' to do all the bloody book chapters and missions. Plus, there's a lot of people who are new to MMO's playing, which is fine, but in say, The Barrows and Garth, you really need players who know their roles in a group. Good game, but I'm not sure I have the patience for MMO's anymore...

I'm guessing from everyone being good guys it doesn't have PvP? Without PvP I can't see it being worth playing at all tbh. FFXI has the bosses and FFness (mostly), WoW has the PvP (best multiplayer experience ever imo), what does this have? (apart from Tolkien, which you have to be into really).

It has 'Monster Play' where you can level up one of the games bad guys to fight against other players in an area of Ettenmoors, but I only tried that for a very brief time as I'm more into the teamwork and questing than PvP so can't go into much detail on how it holds up. Plus you can still duel your mates which is always fun.

As I said earlier, this is the first online game I have ever played so I have nothing to compare it against. But I totally love it.
And console gaming continues to take a back seat, with only GTA4 & Halo 3 as contenders to change that this year.

I got to level 40 with my healer (and 23 with my champion) and got so bored I deleted my characters, unsubscribed and uninstalled the game. Like every other mmo its just an endless grind which gets more tedious the higher level you get.
I'm fairly hateful of the whole genre at the moment, someone needs to break out of this repetitive grinding template.

For me though its mostly about exploring the locations, finding all the points of interest etc and the game is massive in that regard.
I do think it needs alot of additions though, things seperate from regular quests, maybe fishing or diplomacy would be good.
Im still enjoying it all though at the moment, I can see potential for it later on.

Tabula Rasa (Clean Slate) from Richard Garriott of Ultima fame purports to offer players a new found found freedom away from the current 'whack-a-mole' mentality of current MMOs. Having played the beta though, I can see no difference whatsoever, still there's time yet I suppose.
LotRo had a strength at start-up, we seen players learning to play musical instruments in realtime and create bands which would perform in Bree and such. We seen a polite community (mainly still there) and helpful players which raised the bar Warcarft had set so high.....but it looks like it's going to rat**** in front of Turbine's very eyes, and rightly so imo as each step towards the WoW format is taken more players will leave and return to the biggest and best.
My lvl 50 champion has been fun to play in LotRo, but the more I look at what awaits the less inclined I am to continue...More grind for rep and the rubbish rewards on offer when it's attained...More grind for mats for armour and weapon to make me better gear....More grind for the Deeds, which now seem to have taken 2nd place in peoples' eyes in favour of rep....More raids for loot drops and some cash....Bah.
The above were the main reasons my 2 lvl 60 WoW chars were let to rot in favour of adventure in Middle Earth, but now it seems Turbine are determined to chase me away with the same ol' endgame grindfest...Exactly the opposite of their own vision for the game.
If only Oblivion were online.....The levelling system there was something you needed to watch closely (not WoW's every 10 lvls - upgrade yer gear) if that system were online there would be many lvl50s in the space of a week, but they'd all be (athelitc) gimps who couldn't block an incoming spongecake, and incapable of doing damage to a stunned lvl 10 WoW Murloc..
Bring it on 2K.

You still have your lv.70 spongecakes on WoW. I'm on a PvE realm (thanks to my idiot mates) although I run around with PvP flagged on all the time anyway, as most of these PvE tarts always fancy themselves when they see some lone Warlock 11lvls their junior on 50% health already dealing with a quest mob... I had nine dead bodies all piled up around me in Hellfire Peninsula the other night.Died once tbh but Soul Stone ftw.

I decided to take a break from lotro for a while to check out WoW. Apart from being amazed at how close the two games are as models (Turbine have just ripped the whole mechanic, lock, stock, and barrell) I'm just amazed by the game. So solid and stylish. Looks like I may suspend my lotro account as WoW appeals to me even more, pushing all the right buttons after just a few night's play.
