This brings up the question of what we are going to do regarding recruitment, since later on all the Guild City building requires quite a big guild I guess we will need to bring in some more players.

Are we going to take anyone or shall we have any set requirements for entry?

I think we should start bringing people in, especially around level 20 so they can join me in questing

I always find MMOs best when in a moderately sized guild, just not tooooo big.

                    Nice pic

Lol, have you guys spoken to the "Gold Seller" npc in the Noble District of Tarantia? Amusing stuff, "You give me 100G and I give you 90G, ever wanted that nice shiny sword from the auction house or a new piece of armor? I get you gold, fast."

                    Comment

Aye, the gold seller, a parody of what's to come.
Just finished a few Qs in the Sanctum instance, reminds me LotRo's later instances. bish-bang-bosh, move along, bish again, bash again, bosh, take the dosh.
None of which was any good to me

I think i've already given up on this game, while the combats fun and different i can't see me bashing buttons for 80 levels of pain, its crap enough doing it automated in mmo's but having to do it all manually(would like a hit left and continue to hit left till i hit another button action)... i blame it mainly on the lack of partying, crap lore(i've not read a single npc sentence at all after my 1st day in) and quests and ffxi just being a better and well balanced game for me, see you on the occasional days.

AoC is indeed short on the lore front, looks like Funcom have done this deliberately, aside from a couple of name-drops I haven't spotted anything taken directly from the Conan stories other than the general 'feel' of Hyboria with places like The Black River and Fields of the Dead.

Valeria, a female warrior, appears in the story Red Nails and is an NPC in the Thirsty Dog Inn.
Thoth-Amon needs no introduction as the 'big bad' in Hyboria. I'm assuming will be the big lvl 80 takedown.

Both appear in the movie Conan the Barbarian.

I've found parties easy to join and create Tobal, the gameplay is so much better when grouped, and it's a must for places like the Vanir Fortress and the Sanctum of Burning Souls. Say hello on those occasional days now.

Can't seem to find a good old to the bones Review of this...

So I ask, you players here!

Give us some feedback, my birthday June 23rd and I'm thinking of getting it then.

Out of 10 what would u say.

Good points, bad points... what kind of gamers would like this.

Is it worth ?10 pounds a month?

                            Cheers

A lot depends on whether you're into MMOs Waz.
I can compare AoC to pretty much any MMO on the market as I've played a ton of them. I see AoC as directly comparable to LotRo as it's the nearest in look 'n' feel.

My first impressions would rate AoC alongside LotRo for content and gameplay. If you give WoW a 10/10 for content and gameplay then AoC would score 7/10 and LotRo 8/10 because it's been around longer and has been 'updated' with added goodness in the last year or so, including DX10 features, something AoC doesn't have despite the hype Funcom piled on it afore release.
In a years time AoC should be an 8/10 effort when Funcom add in stuff and tweak the stuff that needs tweaking, like the UI f'r instance.

Gameplay wise AoC is a mixed bag, The much vaunted 'fatality' moves never fail to raise a smile and go a long way toward keeping the interest. Afaik fatalities are only pulled off by melee attacks, that's something Funcom should look into...making gory kills for ranged and magic users.

The gameworld, unlike WoW is instanced, [very highly detailed] areas are loaded as you enter them, some areas are fairly large but not as large as they initially appear to be due to unreachable sections.

There are a lot of quests, and in true MMO form these take the form of kill x number of mobs, get x number of drops from the mobs you kill, gather up 'stuff' from the land, deliver this note so-and-so. Nothing innovative here I'm afraid. Actually keeping track of quests and the location you should be to do them is done very well via the map. No more running around wondering where the NPC is who gave you the quest in the first place.

As to the kind of gamer who'd like it, well one who doesn't mind the 'grind' of killing x amount of mobs over and over and appreciates a good ol' slo-mo beheading, one who likes to play in small groups and one who likes a bit o' PvP

is it worth £10 a month? To me it is 'cause I'm a life-long fan of Conan and to be able to tramp around Hyboria as a Cimmerian Barbarian is the business.
To those who play it as a pure 'n' simple MMO, i'd say probably not worth a tenner a month, more like £8 a month.
Play.com are selling timecards btw which work out at £9 a month.

There are fatalities for casters, I saw one while grouped. Lightning fatality makes the npcs skeleton briefly viewable while you can see lightning acring throughout their stiff body and then they collapse. While not as impressive looking as some of the melee ones (blunt 1 handed - kick guy to ground - stand on his chest - smash him in the face ) they are there.

I'd rate Age of Conan an 8/10, even if I dont continue past the first free month I feel I have already gotten £25 worth of entertainment out of the game. I've certainly paid more for much much worse games.

If your a bit unsure you could wait until Funcom activate the friend code system and then ask here for one, I know i'll have a spare one.
