Well, unfortunately I have been defeated by Konami's convoluted ID procedure again.

Despite the fact my Konami ID is registered as Japanese, it won't allow me to log in to the Japanese version of the game. I guess the Game ID that came with is locked in to the US server now. I can't find any way of creating new Game IDs (you can only do it when you creat a Konami ID).

I might register a new Konami ID anyway, I'm really fed up of the US players.

I found myself playing as Akiba in a team sneaking mission last night - first time, I was starting to think they were lying about the special characters. Unfortunately I didn't get much chance to make use of his special skills, but "trap otaku" let me see the name, position and type of trap placed from basically anywhere on the map. Being team sneaking I should have used that info to suss out that an enemy was hiding near the trap location, but instead I got myself killed.

Another nice touch was when I hit a team mate with friendly fire.. Johnny auto responded with "It wasn't my fault!!"

Details are out now about the next expansion (MEME), which is to be previewed at the TGS. Liquid Ocelot and Mei Ling are the characters, and there will be three new maps (snow field, forest and something else). I hope they balance survival mode a bit with the next update.

I just set up a Konami and Game ID, but when I tried logging in, it says there is already a character on my PS3 used on a different Game ID. My console was second hand, so obviously the previous owner had an account. How do I go about de-linking this, so I can create my own character? It's telling me to buy a new character slot, but that costs $7, which is just crazy. Any help is welcome

No idea on that one, the Konami system is shambolic and I'm not convinced even they could help you, but it's worth emailing the support address. I did this months ago because I wasn't able to buy the expansion, and they finally replied to me LAST WEEK. Their reply said they couldn't even find my character, lol.

There aren't any old save files kicking around? Could it be that simple?

I e-mailed Konami about it, and they said:

Dear Mark,

Thank you for contacting Konami Customer Support.

I regret to inform you that the only way to be able to free up the character slot is if you have the previous owner’s Konami ID information

If you know who owned the PS3 before you, please contact them to find out the information and account names they created.

If you do not know who owned the PS3 before you, there’s nothing that we can do to free up the character slot, and you would have to purchase one if you wish to play.

I let them know that the previous owner deleted their Konami ID, which I would have thought would leave the Game ID, but I couldn't log in with the details that he gave me, so...

Dear Mark,

Thank you for contacting Konami Customer Support.

If you delete the Konami ID the Game ID is deleted too.

If the previous owner didn’t delete the character(s) attached to the Game ID, then the free character slot will remain in use.

So, MEME is now out and the game has received an update. I haven't played this for a while, but I still have 1500yen in electronic cash left over from when I bought GENE so I will be picking up the new expansion regardless.

Incidentally, if you log in from now until Dec 9th you also get 10,000 free reward points for your character.

The Client has been updated following the release of "MEME EXPANSION". Updates include:

All alterations
1) New skills
2) Change of skill specification

Lobby
1) An icon was added to the lobby name in "Lobby Select" menu.
2) The time in which one can enter the survival lobby was restricted.

Ranking
1) The figure of the displayed ranking was increased.
2) The quantity of the ranking which moves by the left button or the right button was changed.

SURVIVAL
1) The total number of the Teams currently in battle is added to "Survival match List".

1) "Radar orientation" added in "Gameplay Options".

5) The E-mail Address was changed from "GM" to "CS"(Customer Support).

7) Decision method of the "Beginner" was changed.
8) "EXPANSION PACK" is added to the condition of the filtering stance of "Free Battle".
9) The display was added to appear when Reward Points was earned at the time of login and the Automatching play.
10) The display of the current Reward was changed on the Personal menu.
11) Warning is displayed when playing for a long time.
12) The score came to be added through assistance action.
13) Change in the specification of the level up.
14) The icons for "Friendly Fire" and "Voice Chat" and "Lock on" were added to "COMMON SETTINGS" of Free Battle and Survival.
15) The camera was added to the Mk. II’s equipment.

17) When one of the teams disappears from Free Battle, the game becomes an invalid match.
