Yeah, I’m willing to head to Qu’Bia Arena again for 5-1 when needed. Wouldn’t mind coming as RNG for a change but will come NIN if required.

After we cleared 5-1 I headed to the Throne Room and had a go at soloing the Shadow Lord. Was actually surprised at how close it was in the end (I was expecting a walkover). I went NIN/DNC and the first 60% was pretty easy. Any minimal HP loss was covered by Drain Samba II so by then I was getting cocky and decided to land a Blade: Jin to speed up the process.

As soon as I hit that he put up his physical damage immunity. Fortunately I remembered the trouble this caused when me and Rep duoed this battle for my Bastok mission clears so I came prepared and had the full elemental wheel (plus a nuking gear set) with me and switching to using magic damage. The downside was that I was totally unable to regain any TP and the use of Blade: Jin had left me with only 11TP left. Occasionally the resistance would switch and I was able to build up a little but after a few hits he’d switch back to melee resistance.

By the time I defeated the first form I had about 900HP left, 60TP and I knew the hardest part was to come. I couldn’t even remember if you got a reprieve to rest up but no, he comes straight for you and he started with the constant use of his Implosion attack. Sometimes I’d resist this and it would do half damage (86HP) but unresisted was doing 172 per hit (which my Curing Waltz II just about covered), all whilst trying to deal damage. I was getting concerned that although I was damaging him reasonably quickly I was gradually getting towards red HP.

I won but I walked out with only 400HP. Was definitely the hardest of the 3 Shadow Lord fights I’ve had.

Obviously this isn’t going to stop me helping out on the LS Shadow Lord run later this week but I had decided a long time ago that my final Shadow Lord battle would be a solo attempt and this was the only chance I would get.

Me and Rep had another interesting battle last night when we spawned Cemetery Cherry (originally typed popped instead of spawned there but thought it was an unfortunate choice of word considering the name of the NM) in King Ranperre’s Tomb. Took ****ing forever and Rep picked an unfortunate time to drop a big nuke (i.e. straight after a hate reset TP move) but quite straightforward apart from that.

I really love the added soloability levelling up the DNC subjob has given me.

8pm tonight for WotG quests (In A Haze of Glory and Fire in the Hole). I don’t think I’m going to have time to do the CS leading up to A Feast for Gnats but will definitely work towards them later this week.

DNC is an awesome job for soloing either maining or subbing.

Shame on you rep for slagging it off <.<

In Dara related news, I have almost amassed a full collection of EnII scrolls! The only one which eludes me now is dropped by a level 68-70 Magic Flagon in Ro'Maeve, a task I am not looking forward to in the slightest!

            Augmented Items Abound! (13/07/2009)

Hear ye, mighty champions of Vana'diel!
Have you gazed longingly at the augmented apparel donned by your lower-level peers, wondering when similar equipment would be introduced for those of powers puissant?
Consider your wait over! A host of new augmented items designed especially for high-level characters will be one of the many exciting additions in the upcoming version update.

            Further Fields of Valor!
Elite training regimes will be added to the following areas:
Cape Teriggan / Eastern Altepa Desert / The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah / Ro'Maeve / Yuhtunga Jungle / Yhoator Jungle / Western Altepa Desert / Valley of Sorrows / Ru'Aun Gardens

Thus far, Elite training regimes have yielded augmented items intended for players level 50 and below. Those who demonstrate their valor by completing the new regimes in the fields above, however, will be rewarded with a new selection of augmented items suited for levels above 50.

            A New Challenge Awaits!
The greatest heroes and heroines of Vana'diel—those who have achieved the pinnacles of their respective professions—can also look forward to a new quest that will test the limits of their prodigious powers, and promise rich rewards in kind.
With hordes of fell beasts threatening their ancestral homelands, the pixies would entreat your aid. By entering into a pact with the fey folk to slay one of their notorious foes, high level players will have the opportunity to obtain an augmented item to add to their arsenal.
While Fields of Valor and the elite training regimes offer quick, straightforward objectives that can be enjoyed by lone wolves, this new quest is intended to provide a significant challenge to full parties of up to six veteran adventurers.

To participate in this quest, players must first craft a suitable weapon via a set of new recipes that will be introduced in the coming version update. Entrust one such weapon to the new quest-giving NPC and successfully complete the assigned task, and your weapon will be retuned, freshly endowed with an augment of impressive potency. Should the initial enchantment not be to your liking, you will also have the opportunity to slay a different foe—up to a maximum of five times—to receive a new augment that may better suit your needs.

This quest will offer something for everyone, as each member of the victorious party who has accepted the quest will be eligible to reap the augmented reward. Even players who have not accepted the augmentation quest will be compensated for assisting fellow adventurers with a bounty of their own.

Wow, so that really was all the job updates they had. :O

Still, as a NIN I can't complain but all the other jobs got shafted pretty hard (unless the BLU spells are truly revolutionary).

Can't say I've ever been impressed with any of the low level augmented items from Fields of Valor I've received (usually just small amounts of elemental resistance) so not holding much hope for the new augments. The JSE augmented weapons sound cool though if the quest is truly challenging.

EDIT - Hang on a sec. On that example picture. What does Additional effect: Silence+7 mean?

I suspect it enhances silence spells but lord only knows, going on the +1 and +2 effects from bard songs.

Obviously it's an EN effect but since when have any added effects ever had +X on them?

These new high level augments and party reward system sound great - the game has been crying out for something that rewards all participants and finally we're getting something!

Moonie did you get the other NM?

An easy trio clear (WHM RNG SAM) of In A Haze of Glory but sadly, despite 2 incredibly valiant efforts we couldn’t manage Fire in the Hole @3 (BLM SAM NIN).

Will be tring to shout up a couple of reinforcements in Whitegate this evening and we try again.

I actually thought we were going to clear it on that second attempt but the Quadav reinforcements in the final stage were just too quick for us.

                            Comment

Yeah, the main issue i had was the way the npc never stops running about, mixed with strange hate levels, making the Quadav difficult to catch with Sleepga. Hence the reason i was throwing tier one, then followed up with two, and single target. I really thought we had it on that 2nd try though, one set of nukes from that BLM group destroyed her though .

My current status stands at this.

                              Sandy: The Price of Valor
                              Bastok: Honor Under Fire
                              Windy: A Feast for Gnats
                              Mission line: Crossroads of Time

Should be around this evening to do some more. Also wouldn't mind getting help with the final ACP fight, i've never entered but have the key item ready, i'd like to avoid shouting, given the things i've been hearing about the fight.

Also should people want to small man Limbus zones for items, i'd be interested. Quite a few things i'd like to get involved in again.

Oh and Davi mate, thought you might like this
