Yeah thats pretty harsh. It was way under priced at the start to be honest (30k I think) but to go up from that to 1M is crazy! That said it does look to be a good bit of kit, unlike the Fencer Ring for RDM which is, how should I put it, cr@p...

Personally I would forget about it and get on with some other stuff D. I know you're not really up for exp'ing etc at the moment but theres always other stuff. Quests, COP Missions, NM hunting, crafting etc

Just been listening to Orange Lounge Radio Pod Cast and they were covering FFXI a little and one of the things they were talking about is that the PC and XBox 360 versions may leave the PS2 version behind in the visuals department by showing things like characters capes etc, along with the changes hinted at in the interview link Rare supplied.

capes would f'in rock but would look really stupid on samurai/war/thf/monk/rng, I can see it working for pld/drg/drk and all the mages. The only graphical updates I really want to see is earrings, belt and sheaths for blades like G.K, Sword and dagger (least for Sam that could provide extra stats).

Also top luck camping last night, stopped trying to exp on my whm as there 2 whm already looking for parties when i logged on so I gave up right away and decided to camping for the Empress Pin, spent over an 1hr ? camping getting a bit worried when a ranger showed up as my only competition was war that never moved, a pld not killing any pops near him and monk running up and down the beach. Lucky the Emperor poped in the area I was expecting him to pop and I got him quickly, which lead to him dropping the Pin. Tonight is Bounding boots time.

Bah well there goes most of next weeks play then, it does tick me off that there's never a staggering of maintenance round all the time zones. Everytime it comes down at the start or UK prime time and is back just in time for Japanese prime time though in this case 34 hours later.

The real joy is this is the third outage in just 2 weeks, but I suppose it's better than the last release. I assume the thing will be offline for about 3 months after the next release if current form is anything to go by

Nice work on the Empress Pin Tobal. Good bit of kit and no mistake. Part of me is considering camping it and selling my Emporer Pin to cash in 1m gil but the one I have holds special meaning to me. It signals the time in my character?s career when I really started getting serious about my equipment and was the first piece of equipment that I dedicated farming time exclusively for. 2 and a half weeks of mining in Gusgen to get that thing.

Wouldn?t mind some Bounding Boots though for when I take jobs like RNG and THF up through the early levels when I can change to Winged at 24.

After a couple of days of not selling, 7 stacks of my Slime Oil sold overnight putting my gil total at 810k with 5 more stacks hopefully gonna sell today (along with the Scorpion Arrows I synthed last night) which should put me over 900k. I was considering an EXP session tonight but I feel like I?m so close to that Anemet Mantle+1 that I think I?m just going to farm up to the weekend (and maybe over the weekend) to take me past the amount I need and have a decent stash for EXP costs.

As for capes I really hope not. I just think they would look really camp and I certainly wouldn?t want my cool looking NIN ruined with a cape flowing behind me. Also I think any talk of the Xbox360 version leading to a massive graphical improvement are greatly exaggerated. I think we?ll be seeing a resolution increase on the textures and an improvement in the draw distance. As to whether we will see improved modelling, I?m not so sure. Surely that would be a massive undertaking and not something that could be offered to PC users via a patch download.

The second image is probably best to demonstarte. If you look at the texturing on the modeling, it looks far sharper and richer than what we currently have but the actual character models don't look any more complex than current ones.

I really need to update pc, I think my ffxi looks closer to the PS2 but in a higher res, but with no AA or super smooth frame-rate. If they do upgrade the PC side of the graphics engine to the 360 standards then I will upgrade? but if by some chance SE let us transfer our PC characters on to 360 account I would be sold on it, the chance to play a better looking ffxi on my largish widescreen LCD (dvi connection) wouldn?t be able to resist.

It might just be the quality of the screenshot photos, but based on what I've seen of the 360 version on ign, it doesn't look THAT much more impressive than the PC version, infact it doesn't look any better than it does on my system.

dude accounts are interchangable. You would have to buy another copy of the game (X360 version natch) but when you came to load it you would log in with your current account details rather than create a new account. Your account details are tied in with POL and are not related to your format whatsoever.

People flit between the PS2 and PC clients using the same account all the time without any issues.

Wedge X360 is suposedly out at the end of the year but there is some uncertainty as to whether FFXI is a launch title. I was unsold on the console so far (even FFXI wasn't enough to get me to move) but after hearing that Ridge Racer 6 was an X360 title I've decided the machine is for me and I may as well get FFXI so I can have it running on the plasma screen (could never be assed carting the PC downstairs to hook it up).

Yeah but the problem is regions AREN'T interchangable. Because I was running US PS2 version I had to import the US PC version. SO that likely means importing a US 360 (and I'm told the power supply on those things is going to be a monster, so may not be very import friendly).

Thats what I was thinking, as im on a US PC version of the game I would need the US Xbox360 version, seems like it could be too much hassle.

You actually wouldn?t and would. It?s sort of complicated.

Any of us registered with a US account can log in to any other version of the game from any region. Moot has done this. I have US POL and FFXI software but when I got him his own account I got Euro PC version and registered him with that. However, he has logged in to the US version on my machine on occasion (when he had difficulty with the net connection on his computer) using his European login details.

I would guess this would be the same with the European X360 version too.

The difficulty comes when creating new content IDs or registering expansion packs. This was identified last year after the Euro release. You cannot register an expansion pack using a code that comes with Euro or JPN version if your account is US based nor can you create new characters on your account unless you in a region correct version of POL Viewer.

What this all means:

You would need to continue to run your US PC version as a ?home? as it were. You have to purchase any future expansion packs from the US and register expanded services on your PC. Creation of new characters also has to be done on the PC.

You can purchase a Euro X360 version and log in with your US account with no problems. Once in the POL Viewer on the X360 all you will be able to do is go into the game (no account management stuff will be available). However all your characters and expansion packs will be available (provided you registered them on PC beforehand).

In the event of a new expansion pack you would have to purchase 2 copies, a US PC version and a Euro X360 version (however this would also be the case if you ran Euro PC and X360 versions alongside each other).

It is slightly complicated. The only difficulty comes if you plan to stop using the PC version altogether to replace with the X360 version (in which case, yes you would need a US machine and game). However I plan to run both simultaneously so I have the option of play on both formats.

Price history seemed to read 100k-200k across the board (to be expected) then there was sudden leap to 1 million gil. What I think has happened is someone has mistakenly bid 1 million when they intended to bid for 100k. Sadly someone has taken this as a sign that the value of the item is worth that so has listed it pretty high. Unfortunately someone has now bought the one you bid on last night for 700k. However I do feel you should wait this out as the price should drop again.

Cheers Rare, I just took one look and shut the AH down in frustration, I had wondered if maybe it was somebody listing their own ring and buying it for 1 mil just to set a price history. I'm sure the last jump from 20K to 200K was a mistake too, but the price stuck.

After checking into it, I might just take a gamble on getting the ring through the BCNM50. Tal & tsing will be relieved to hear that I can do this solo - it's a 6 man fight, but it's basically russian roulette. Three chests - choose the correct one and it's instant treasure, wrong one and it's a mimic you have to fight (and be killed by, if you happen to be alone!).

I have 150 seals saved up for the other BCNM which has crushed us repeatedly, so I might blow them all gambling in this one first. The ring would increase our chances of success in the other fights anyway.

It just means I'll be farming seals from now until the servers get switched off, cos not only do you have to choose correctly, it seems you only get 1 ring in a chest and there's a lot of crappy ones to be obtained as well.

Oh yes! Have been looking forward to this for ages! Unfortunately I get the impression the furnace is likely to be somewhere neer those uber skeleton!
