I've finally let my subscription lapse while I wait for anything significant enough that I'll go back for, and at the Vegas Fanfest this weekend they just announced exactly that. Dawntrail is the name of it, and it looks a bit more lively and colourful compared to the dark and dramatic Endwalker. They've also just revealed that an Xbox version of the game is finally coming, which is long overdue.

Per last post, everyone I know failed miserably at getting tickets for the London fanfest, but I did manage to get a group of 6 for the Eorzean Symphony concert at the Hammersmith Apollo, and have got buddies from my FC coming over from across Europe for it.

When I read recently that you could trial without time limits up to lvl60 and now potentially 70 with the next update, I thought 'why not'. Always wanted to dip in. I have been put off twice in past failing at the logging in This weekend I persisted in sorting that out and now I'm happily chilling my way around it.

Lots of new Dawntrail-related stuff at Fanfest this weekend, including one of the new jobs being Viper.

This was pretty good! No sign of Sakaguchi sadly (I thought we might see him given he was at Fanfest) but Yoshi P, Koji Fox and Soken were there along with Amanda Achen and Jason Charles Miller on vocal duties.

So free return event coming up, thought I might give it a spin again - pretty much dropped out after heavensward - what's the game like now?

After doing a home world transfer I made the move from Zodiark to Cerberus to play with and make a FC with some friends around December. I had left my character towards the end of 2022 at the end of Endwalker and the second patch in (so 6.2) and from that time onward played through the post EW patches and also Dawntrail and the first post expansion patch. I've read a lot of criticism online about the story content of Dawntrail, especially around a certain character, but I thought it was plenty fine. The biggest criticism is that your Warrior of Light takes a backseat to this character but after the events of Shadowbringers and especially Endwalker I don't think this is wholly surprising.

Job wise I had left myself with a max level Warrior and I'd left several other classes at the level cap from Shadowbringers (Dark Knight, Astrologian and Dragoon) but now they're all max level at level 100 and I even decided to level Pictomancer to have a ranged magic class. Pictomancer appears to be fairly overpowered right now (even beating out black mage) while not requiring a high level of execution. I'm not sure what which job to start next but I'm thinking I might level the other tank jobs (Paladin & Gunbreaker) and a physical ranged DPS class, maybe Dancer. Oh and I've still barely touched DoH/DoL jobs...
