    Retro Drive...

    How do folks....

Anybody up for a "Retro Drive", where by we grab a retro title and play it to completion? You can use the thread to post about your progress, screenshots or even movies of your gameplay, etc....

You could always cheat and just take a game you can already complete if you like, but that defeats the object of the thread Take the opportunity to play some game you've always wanted to get into or experience. Replay some game you used to rinse as a kid (e.g. like Boog's G'n'G thread) and play through again, etc....

You can play on the original hardware or emulate it, retro-platforms only (including DC/Playstation, home computers... if you like). Anything goes really... you can play as many as you like, I suppose but it might make the thread messy, depending on response

Just trying to encourage some retro discussion mostly, drop us a reply if you're interested

How about Plok on the SNES? Loved the game when I was younger but was never able to complete it as the game is a nightmare in later stages.

    No save states allowed

Yea, if you're using an emulated version then no save states allowed -- only saving is via the in game stuff, passwords or whatever

I was thinking of a couple of games, tbh. Stunt Car Racer -- I could so easily play this to death -- top of division, which probably wouldn't take too long and Equinox, which I've already started. I've a stack of screen shots already but I'm currently stuck so I put it down for a bit while I clock some more recent games. I was thinking about Wonderboy III too, on the SMS.

SCR is the Speccy version, which has save/load at the end of each section. Equinox is a SNES game, saves when you exit the dungeon so it'd be easy to do small chunks when I have the time. Wonderboy III uses a password system, so I'll need some paper

I vote for Actraiser on the SNES.

What a cool idea. Count me in if I have the game.

Do you want to all do one title or a title each? Actraiser is a good 'un, lovely game that...

I'd be up for a bit of this - I've got a stack of SNES titles begging to be played at the mo. Plok's a winner too... even mrs m likes it!

OK, I'm up for starting Actraiser -- I've completed it countless times before so it'd be good to play it again I'll see if I can grab some movies of the platforming levels, gonna play it via an emulator (disclaimer: I have the cartridge too!)

Anybody else wanting to join in, go for it... let's have status reports, etc... Any other game is good to, might have a look at Plok!

Except for Strider, 'cos he's cheated

Strider, I hope you will mention Actraiser2, and how bad it was. Though the graphics were quite nice, overall it was a major disappointment.

There were rumours of a Actraiser3 for the Snes, and then it was then supposed to come-out on Saturn, and at the moment there is a rumour of a new Actraiser from Enix sometime. I guess all the fans live in hope for a true sequel.

Isn't it available for a mobile phone now, whats it like?

I never complete many Mame arcade games, but I did enjoy the Simpsons, it just has so much going on and a lot of variety between the levels.

Imo it's the best Simpsons game ever, Konami at their best.

Why don't people report their favourite bits, maybe some captures of particular parts they like.

Actraiser would be perfect for the DS. You could play all the arcade battles on the top screen and use the bottom screen for all your world building. Building the worlds would be much easier with a stylus and you could shoot all the little monsters with it as well.

But you don't do both at the same time, it'd be a gimmick

So anyway, I played through the first land tonight. Top stuff. Here's some pictures...

Right after I've initially cleared the forest of monsters, the game jumps into Sim City mode with a temple where my people praise Sir marklar. Let's build some ****...

...and kick some monster arse! Once the area is clear, one of the people starts seeing some weird **** in her dreams. A minotaur is gonna come curse everyone, so they want me to kick off, heh.

Watch me l33t-skills here (note: the video may not actually contain l33t-skills). Dunno why it is muted, I think I forgot to encode the audio but I don't really give a crap ('sbout 15mb anyway).

That's FILLMORE (I like how the game does that) outta the way, I shall continue, er, tomorrow

Lightweight. You should be playing the Super Famicom version, I remember that's the hardest version and obviously the one to go for if you've completed the game already

                            I'll start playing tonight.
