When I started collecting I used eBay and to be honest I paid over the odds for alot of games. Now I use http://www.japangamestock.com and occassionally Yahoo Auctions Japan. You'll generally get the cheapest prices with YAJ but I found that was negated slightly by using a proxy bidder like Celga that take their own cut.

The four games you mentioned (with the exception of Famicom Wars) can be quite expensive when compared to most other titles. For example, JGS have a boxed Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari (River City Ransom) for £23 (http://www.japangamestock.com/buy_vi...oducts_id=9520)

Titles like Summer Carnival 92 Recca and the cart version of Castlevania 1 are probably the most expensive Famicom titles I've seen. You'll pay around £80 for Castlevania 1 on eBay, but obviously less on YAJ, etc.

As for machines, well I picked up a MIB AV Famicom for £45 recently on eBay, but I'm sure Yakumo could point you to one that's probably cheaper than that!

Btw, the forum at this website can be useful: http://www.famicomworld.com/

    Good luck!

Thanks for the Famicom-World link, looks like a good site

I keep dipping my toe into Famicom collecting, I was given one with some games a while back but was offered a trade too good to refuse so it went. I bought a few games on eBay as an attempt to replace the others but then decided I'd just get a Wii and use the virtual console so back to eBay they all went. Only now I'm not impressed with the Wii so back to Famicom collecting I go...

Don't forget to look for a NES extension cable, the controller cables on the AV are almost as short as the PC Engine.

Soooo my Famicom arrived but I can't get a picture on my CRT or my LCD

I really can't tell if it's the TVs or the Famicom. I thought my CRT had 99 channels but like a dork I didn't realise there's transmission channels relating to the frequency of broadcasts, and on these it doesn't go up high enough (it has C up to 80-odd and S up to 20 or something). So, even if the machine works I think I still need to AV mod it.

The only thing stopping me going to Maplin right now and getting the parts is the chance the machine itself is broken but I really can't tell one way or the other. If anyone has any ideas on how I could check it's working I'd be very grateful.
