Thanks very much, had a quick try of Faussete Amour, first 3 levels and so far so good.

The collections up to 65 titles now, so not massive, got a couple more interesting titles to come in the post hopefully this week, and most of the money raised from my current sales thread will go on acquiring more PCE stuff with the odd MD and SFC titl thrown in. The PCE has taken over as my current machine of choice.

Woohooooo, I've got my first PC Engine!! Gonna RGB it when the parts arrive, in the meantime it's time to clean it up - any tips so that I don't damage it whilst trying to restore the white - it's not like the SNES is it which is irreversably yellow?

BIG thanks to JazzFunk for sorting me out with it, I've also got Pac Land and Shinobi to play on it Dan, I could give you a big hug, cheers again!!!

This has been a great month for me, picked up the two consoles I always dreamed of having whilst growing up, the white PCE and an AES.

                Congratulations on your acquisitions.

The PCE should clean up quite nicely if it's grubby. I used a PVC cleaner from Homebase when I first got mine. Mine's a slight off white but certainly not yellow and in photos looks like it's pure white.

Seconded on Splatterhouse being a very good conversion to the PCE.

Righto, PVC cleaner - if I get stuck tonight with the cleaners that I've already got I'll give it a go - cheers

UPDATE - it's white again, found an old (really old, about 10 years) can of PC Case Cleaning foam in the cupboard which I had forgotten about, had it in pieces in the back garden and covered in this spray foam stuff, went back later on, rinsed it off and it's nice and white again

Found a copy of Big Run for my long since gone Amiga in the loft, so picked up Victory Run for some Paris-Dakar action.

Renny Blaster, the spine is a repro but the game is real enough, will draw mixed responses I'm sure but I just had to get it. Thanks again to Adol for this one.

Got round to having my first play quite late last night and then found my broadband was down earlier today but it's back now.

Firstly I think most people who lay down £100 on this game will put their head in their hands and think "god what have I done".

                                Fortunately, I'm not most people.

The game has been compared with Dracula X, and from the intro it does feel as though that's going to be the case, but it does try to be different at the same time.

The game has two characters to choose from and each has their own opening intro and first section into the opening stage at which point the paths seem to take the same route. Only tried the game quickly so could be wrong on that last bit. After completing the first stages you get to go to some European cities and can actually choose which one to go to out of the choices available.

The graphics are a mixed bag. The intro stuff is well drawn but I'm not a fan of the style and they seemed qute lazy for a 1995 release as their is zero animation to them, even though they had all that extra memory available to them from the better system cards by then.

The main character sprites and some of the bosses are well done, they are well animated and give a fairly good feeling of movement. The main fodder enemy are pretty generic but not terrible. Sadly most backgrounds seem a bit sloppy and not too well defined and would surely have benefited from having some more time spent on them.

The character I played as has some cool moves, he walks and double tap left or right runs across the screen. Hit the II button whilst running and you thrust forward with an elbow blow, press the I button to leap and II whilst in the air to perform a flying kick. Punches are thrown by standing still and pressing II and kicks by moving towards your enemies. Sweep kicks by holding down and pressing II and blocks performed by holding down + back at the same time. You can do a forward roll with a kick at the end by pressing II + I at the same time.

In addition to that you can hold down the II button to charge your energy bar it has three stages which trigger 3 special/magic moves when released. Yellow/Blue/Red. The moves include lightning quick punches, backward jump followed by a thrusting forward punch, lightning attacks to name a few. It looks like there will be 12 in 4 different scrolls for each of the three stages of charge. You can find scrolls throughout the levels which you can the use between levels to change the three charge attacks you will have in the next level. Also hidden are extra lives and roast chicken health replenishments.

The second character has a different move set and uses a sword in some of his moves.

For a gameplay mechanic, I think it's pretty in depth for a game with only 2 action buttons.

Sadly though, the enemies feel a bit samey, and the game felt a bit too easy for the 3 levels I had chance to play yesterday. I did wonder how far I could get in one sitting as I turned it off.

The sound is another area where it's gone a bit wrong, most of the music is good but not noteworthy. The speech in the static scenes is often scratchy and of a very low quality, it's hard to hear what's being said which is surprising given that the music has to stop streaming for the speech to be played. During a level just before boss encounters the conversation will interrupt the action, again the streaming music has to stop and is replaced by yet more scratchy speech. The character boxes that appear are also devoid of any movement making the conversation feel flat and a bit lifeless.

Overall it's a pity that a game which was released so late on in the PC Engine's life feels as though it was rushed to get out on the shelves. With the proper care and attention this game could have been on a par with Dracula X, as it is it will remain a rare curio for madmen like myself to spend "silly money" on it.
                                I've no regrets though.
