Wasn't aware of the Home Alone one though. That makes three right including Sonic 2?

Damn it! I bet you got it from one of the shops I used to visit on a weekly basis....that'll teach me to take a break from collecting.
Yeah there's three of these that are known about, but before this copy of Batman Returns only Sonic 2 had actually surfaced. Home Alone will be even harder to find I expect being a rarer game to start with.
I think they were some kind of sales experiment rather than store display boxes, more like the NTSC blue cart re-releases. They were probably trying to sell more SMS 2's, by rebranding some of the popular games and movie tie-ins. There is possibly a hell of a lot more games that have this kind of variation, if it's taken 20 years for yours to surface who knows what else is out there.
