    powerstone

I heard Tom mention this in another thread a while ago, so on Saturday a few of my mates came round and we had alittle Powerstone sesh!
While i do consider the first game the superior, we gave the sequel as spin for the 4 player mode.
One way to describe this game...NUTS!

The graphics still look fantastic, and how can you not like a lead character with a name like FOKKER. Yes Capcom changed the PAL release, as they realised we are bunch of immature gits, but anyway i like the name FOKKER.

Yep, the from the company that invented sequels came the most refreshing beat em up for AGES! and i would say this game is the most ideal 'GUYS' night in game this side of Virtua Tennis. You don't need to sit for hours wanking over different kara grab set ups to be able to enjoy this game, and its generally one of those games that make you wince or shout "Shiiiiiiiiit" as soon as you see Gunrock picking up a gigantic Rocket launcer or Ryoma beating you to the last Powerstone thus morphing into his metal Ninja!!

My only gripe is the audio which does makes me chuckle "OH NO!" once in a while but generally (like most beat em ups) is a bit wank. Generally overlooked at the time, while everyone was waiting for SC i felt this was one of the rare times Edge was fair in a review and gave it a 9. Although later they did say that they felt they was far to generous !
Now a Cel Shading graphics version sequel would also be yummy, but only on Dreamcast mind !Actually i thought this would make an ideal live game or even better capcom could just bang the two games on a "anniversary" package and ala~ fighting heaven..

I love Power Stone. I recently converted a mate who thought that Super Smash Bros was the daddy of comedy fighters of this ilk - he soon changed his opinion.

    "RELCOME TO POWER STONE RRRRORLD"

Classic. Second one isn't as good, but still a cracking game. And the graphics on both still stand up today, no problems.

Look up One Piece Grand Battle! Rush (PS2) if you want a modern take on it, based on the anime of the same name it's quite mad.

Loved the first game. Was my favourite out of all the PAL DC's launch games.

Was far too easy to get "jewelled-up" in PowerStone 2 though and made it a lot more random. I liked the way the arenas were considerably more advanced, but preferred the closer, more-focused combat in the original.

You forgot to mention the VMU mini-games.

I *love* the chaos of Power Stone 2 - the first seems really tame and considered in comparison, although I'm prolly in the minority of that opinion now...

Power Stone was the first game I ever played on my DC. The graphics still look gorgeous, even today. Fokker's 'Pub' stage remains one of my favourite fighting game levels of all time. The whole game is wonderfully inventive and very well produced - but its commercial failure (and that of the follow up) mean we're unlikely to see Capcom popping any more games out of this type. Shame.

Playing PS for the first time really felt like jumping up a generation - I didn't get the same buzz firing up my PS2, I'll tell you that much.

Power Stone 2 multiplayer kicks ass, its by far the best multiplayer experience for 4 players, and I still give it a regular beating.

The minute I saw this game running in my local import shop I had to buy a DC then and there. Brilliant at the time and brilliant now...

Ahh the memories, me my bro and some mates used to play this all the time when i got it for my Japanese Dreamcast excellent game, Wang Tang was always my fav character. Agreed the 2nd is not as good but the four player option is fun. Can't beat the first Powerstone though, i so need another Dreamcast more than i need a PSP

Didnt capcom take the general idea of this into Onimusha: Blade Warriors, but just not as good?
