No, I totally agree with you there. Everything about the original seems so barren compared to the second.

Loved collecting/mixing the items too, very addictive.

The two iterations of this game are very different experiences imo!

I like them both. Brilliant graphic design that oozes quality and Capcom magic. The gameplay is just so gripping and well thought out- and the sound is also perfectly fitting!

I choose no2 as my favourite though. It is more manic and just impresses me that little bit more to make it a firm classic in my mind. I remember getting these games for the first time and having a big grin on my face as I realised this was something extra special. The Dreamcast didn't really have too many good games at that point- and to see Capcom putting so much effort in to a DC game really filled me with confidence for the Dreamcasts future.

Soul Calibur and Powerston 1&2 are titles that push the DC and show it's strengths. If only these games had been pushed to the public more, the Dreamcast would have probably sold a fair amount more!

I too love the PS games. Absolute quality. And surely the best candidate for an online game ever. Imagine 16 player PowerStone Online, with ever bigger areas to fight over. Why Capcom, why not make use of the Xbox's online capabilities and give us an online version.....

Oh yeah, I prefer the first game if I'm playing by myself (most of the time). But on the odd occasion I do have gaming chums over we've had great fun on 4 player PS2. Even managed to rope the missus in, and she did end up enjoying it.

"umbereebable" Powerstone 1 is the best beat em up ever made in my opinion..Having said that, I absolutely hated the game the first time I played it...I just didn't 'get it' but a few rounds later I was hooked! The graphics, music, gameplay and charming cheesy announcer make this game gold. I've been playing this game constantly since it's release. It's one of those games with that fun atmosphere, games frustrate me quite often but this just makes me happy each time I play it.

A dream come true would be Power Stone 3

Powerstone was the game that convinced me to buy the Dreamcast on release. An astonishing title I reckon, pure Capcom magic. I've have to say I prefer the second game though, mainly for the 4 player mayhem but also for the bigger (albeit sparser) levels and the extra characters and items. It was amazing to see how far you scroll could out the screen when the characters get really far apart. Both games are unique classics though and I can't believe they weren't more popular.

If i could fish some batteries out, I might give the VM games a quick go as i seem to remember them being pretty fun.
              Did PS2 have any?

I couldn't play the first one for ****, it frustrated the life out of me I wanted so much to love it because it looked great and, far as I could tell, played great; but I was so **** at it, it was untrue.

Even now I switch it on every once in a while, but I still can't do it. Never got anywhere near finishing it against the computer, even on easiest difficulty.

All my years of fighting-game-heroicness, and I was never sure what I was doing wrong with Powerstone; that was the problem. It's been a while now, but I seem to remember that having things constantly thrown at me while the computer effortlessly picked up all the powerstones then wiped me out just made me want to twist the pad until it snapped.

The second one, for some reason, I was good at. So, I thought it was awesome.
