Have played this all weekend on and off (paused only for goes on The Last Blade). What an awesome game and an awesome experience. Can't wait to get home from work so I can play it some more. Whenever you get a level up or discover a new ability just rocks. "DARK METAMORPHOSIS!"

Anyone else noticed how the old bloke in the shop in the library sounds like homo-erotic pink hippo George out of Rainbow?

Honestly mate with two kids I dunno how you find the time! I have enough trouble getting my gaming time with just one!

Don't get me wrong - when I say "all weekend" - it probably means about 2 or 3 hours a day or several hour long blasts - and usually early in the morning!

The secret is to do plenty of stuff around the house - yesterday I got up and did all the housework in the kitchen - this got me plenty of brownie points and thus I had carte blanche to have a crack on SOTN for an hour or so and then go up the boot sale.

Where baby is so young and sleeps a lot, and nipper usually amuses himself, normally the wife will come out into my den and read whilst I am on my games - so there isn't always that anti-social-ness to it.

There is no way I am going to abandon SOTN before finishing it, as I did with my last play through Final Fantasy VI. Roll on 4pm!!

Haha, ain't that the truth! I'm not allowed anywhere near my consoles if there's work to be done around the house! And even then I have to fight tooth and nail to get a quick blast! Like you say getting up early is the key...

"Completed" this this morning - although I feel that I have done this with only a small portion of the game actually discovered. May have to check a FAQ to confirm this - I was a bit disappointed when

I beat Richter Belmont and then the end credits rolled. I had only just managed to turn into the bat and thought there must be aaaages to go before the end. Richter was a piece of piss as well!

            .

Can someone confirm that I need to revisit the game and finsih it for good?

There are two rings you have to wear that allow you to flip the castle upside down and defeat Dracula. I'm sure it's possible to be able to get a completion of over 210 percent.

You'll have to head over to gamefaqs mate as I can't remember what two rings you need or where you have to be to activate them.

Righto - will check out a FAQ and then return to kick Dracula's ass, once I have the rings of course.

Yeah - you're only halfway there mate, once you reach the inverted castle there's a whole new set of baddies to beat.

If anyone on here can tell me how to get the relic that allows you to go in water then i would be eternally grateful. A FAQ I read says it is in

the underground caverns, at the part where the boatman ferries you across the water.

I am buggered if I can see it. No links to Gayfaqs either - can't access sites like that from here!

Bloody hell now you're asking. It's been years since I played that. I'll check GameFAQs for you as I'm allowed on that site at work. Give me five minutes.

                        RETURN TO THE UNDERGROUND CAVERNS

Now take the straight path down, ALL THE WAY DOWN until you see the deeper parts of the Underground Caverns. Drop straight down until you see a portion of the structure that is partially turned ice. Hit the lower left part of that structure until it crumbles and continue your down until you see the Ferryman. He will take you across and make sure to pick up the HOLY SYMBOL, which will allow you to walk through water without incurring any damage. Now continue through and go to the bottom of the water and pick up the ELIXIR, LIFE MAX, and KNUCKLE DUSTER in ther waters in this room. Now head back to the left and up and take the doorway to the right, and this will ensue a boss fight.
Taken from an FAQ on GameFAQs...Jesus, this guy needs to learn proper English, and fast.

All this talk of Castlevania has brough many memories of NES CV flooding back. Anyhow, I used my Google-Fu and came up with this rather smashing fansite: The Castlevania Dungeon.

Out of interest, in the DraculaX PCE section under 'wierdness' it turns out there's a hidden minigame. You need a Sys2.0 card and a PCE seperates set-up. I can't test it as I have a DuoR.

I was thinking about getting this game for the Saturn, but I have been wondering about getting a PSone (?20 in GameStation + ?3.50 for a OneChip)for Japanese shmuppery. Anyhow, I think I'm off to town tomorrow, although I very much doubt I'll be able to find this or even R-Types/Delta.

Cool, I forgot how much fun the CV series was. Has the series ever been Retro Game of the Month? I vote for this next month, if not.

I think Super Castlevania IV was game of the month a few months back. Plus - I can't possibly do another Konami game - as they have monopolized the threads lately!

Just thought I would say - the bit Duddy posted above is utter bollocks. The item I was looking for is somewhere else in that area - if they are that vague about other moments from the game, then frankly the FAQ is shocking and shouldn't be on their site.

Monkey - if you get a chipped PSone, then you can not only buy some wicked shmups, but you can also take advantage of cheaper, US NTSC versions of SOTN. You need this game dude.

I was about to say the guide was right, but it turns out it was only halfway right.

going to the left of the waterfall in the caves lets you meet the Ferryman for the first time. you go with him, and you pick up the Merman relic. I'll assume that you done this, as you confirmed the guide is tosh. After that, you go back to somewhere past the waterfall to the right, and somewhere there's an area where there is another ferryman. you use him to get the Holy Symbol.

A proper guide this time, also from gamefaqs:
"Walk right, drop down, walk left, and catch a lift with the Ferryman. His boat
is very stable, so don't worry about jumping around on it. Keep an eye open
for bats as you sail through the underground river. At the end, hop off and
continue left to find the Merman Statue, which summons the ferryman. Hm?
Didn't we just see him?! Note that the Merman STatue looks more like a
Mermaid - maybe that has something to do with the summoning.

Head back to the right and ride with the Ferryman back to his starting point.
Walk all the way to the right, back to the Waterfall, and fly up as the Bat.
Walk four rooms to the right, all the way back to where you dropped down the
monstrous pit, and drop down again. At the bottom of this shaft you can go to
the right - don't bother yet. Instead, smash the floor open with your sword at
                                the lower left corner.

Drop down and head to the right to find - yay, another Ferryman. Hop on board,
watch out for bats, and keep in mind that at several points you're going to
have to duck to prevent being thrown off the boat. At the end of the ride, hop
off to the right. Walk right through the next room, hopping to minimize the
water damage, and then into the cave at the end to find the Holy Symbol, a
relic which prevents you from being damaged by water. It's only coincidental
that it looks exactly like a snorkel."
