On the subject of essential Saturn titles - two more must have PAL releases are Saturn BomberMan (the finest BomberMan game, probably never to be surpassed now) and Exhumed, which though will doubtless look rough now, has a solid, swift engine, fantastic audio but most importantly some awesome level design.

As you state, getting through it without the help of an FAQ is pretty hard, but with a decent guide the game is bags of fun. I wish this had been translated into English.

I like Daytona CCE - it's a damn fine racer. Sure, it's not true the arcade original, apart from the three tracks pulled from that game, but it's still very playable and enjoyable nonetheless. It's worth owning both Saturn versions of Daytona IMHO - the original for the arcade-perfect gameplay, and CCE because it's one of the few racers on the Saturn that is really fun.
All this talk about the game has made me want to fire it up after I'm done browsing through the boards here.

You could play at different times of day (ie night and day) and you could select whether you wanted the original Daytona soundtrack (redone, but it still had the vocals) or the one that ended up in CCE. I believe the cars handled better as well. The graphics were a little more fine tuned as well. This is what I have read anyway.
I want to pick up a JAP copy when I can afford to get into importing.

I think in this day and age, you should buy a Dreamcast for the definitive version of Daytona if that is the game that you are after.
As foe saturn must haves....
NIGHTS into Dreams( best game ever made)
Radiant Silvergun
Street Fighter Zero series.
Vampire Hunter,saviour.
Dungeons and Dragons games.
Marvel vs Capcom.
Virtua Fighter one and two.
Outrun.
Gale Racer
Many, many more the japanese catologue of games is superb.

Graphics and handling were a bit better too.
In the same way JP/Pal Sega Rally had a new Cliff Bitmap graphic put in, over that of the USA version. The Spaceship was redone in the Jp version.
You could't race in night or day though.

It's the same as the US Netlink edition isn't it? Does the JPN game also feature Netlink?
Also note that there is a Sega Rally Plus netlink edition too and so far I can tell that game is also improved. Its graphics seem to be better. Anyone else think so too?

Booted up my Saturn for the first time in a while yesterday. Apart from the battery being completely and utterly ****oed it was still in great nick. Fired up VF2, surprise, surpise it still holds up today. I thought the graphics would look really primitive but it really does hold up IMO. Prefer it to Tekken 5.
