and regarding those inflated prices you see.. well that seems to be common practice.. the buyer usually has the accept offer button and usually lets it go for FAR less...

I've actually noticed that when people let those VGA graded games go to auction they fetch FAR more anyhow..
    ducks and runs for cover......

I think it's the fact that you are paying for a game you cannot play. It's like buying a painting that will spend its whole life covered up apart from one tiny corner. Pointless.

so a game you have bought for say ?30 sealed, and sent it away to this crowd to get it ?graded?, say that costs you another ?30 (don?t know what it actually costs, could be more,) is it guaranteed to be worth more now? you would need to make more that ?60 to make it worth while getting it graded. complete waste of money IMO, people pay what they will pay.

but you can look at the lovely box art and admire the seal, knowing you own something very special in its toughened lens filtered, radioactive proof, harded plastic case...

this was a ?30 game not so long ago and in a nutshell, answers your question, kyo_244

Want to be the envy of all your chums and make your girlfriend gasp with delight?? Then you too could own this for the low low price of a few weeks pocket money...

a 90 VGA rating? look at the state of the rippled seal. Surely worth only 89?

yup I totally agree about the VGA hate, it's a load of crap! Sadly people get a bit too caught into collecting, myself included. But I refuse to pay over the odds because some tosser somewhere has shoved the game in another box and slapped a sticker on it...

Wow.. i understand the hate but people in here completely hate it.. nes games for example are impossible to find sealed nowadays and can go for over a thousand.. anyway each to their own.. I too at first thought it was all a load of BS but after a bit of thought there is some logic to it..

How is this any different to the comic collecting community where an untouched sealed copy of amazing fantasy could fetch thousands.. ??

I started posting in this topic btw as I'll probably be getting my Metal Gear Solid twin snakes graded before selling.

How can a brand new sealed game only achieve 90%? Surely it'd be 100% being that it's untouched by human hands.

Things like this is why people laugh at us.

But its not untouched by human hands.. it could've been in a store looked at and handled by hundreds before.. So the actual seal woulc have scuffs, marks, dents or even rips which would affect the game inside also

Thats how I understood it anyways..

I don't think anyone laughs when there's serious money involved

So where you come from they have sealed games sitting on shelves? How does a scuffed seal affect a game inside the case that is under the seal? Is this I Am the Walrus?

I mean people that don't play video games. ?700 is not serious money. ?700,000 is serious money. Like what you pay for houses and serious things.

Isn't the VGA place in the US? So wouldn't you incur customs charges both ways (or at least once)? Not to mention the risk of the disc popping out in the case in transit/your mint condition sealed cardboard boxed game being crushed/very slightly crumpled in transit....

I guess once it's been sealed and ruined so that people who actually want to play games lose a chance to play a game, it'd instantly rise in value and the customs taxes associated with it would be huge.
