    Playstation collecting

I was just wondering if there are any serious ps1 collecters around here?
The playstation isnt taken very seriously by collecters unlike the saturn or other consoles, so it seems to me, possibly as its seen as too mainsteam/succesfull. For me, thats no reason to dismiss it and its my favourite console to collect for (along with the gba) whats your views on this topic? Please dont turn this thread into a saturn vs playstation thing as thats not my intention, id just like to hear from fellow ps1 collecters about there collections, there most prized items, stuff there'd like to find, undiscovered gems and there views on playstation collecting in general. Thanks very much.

Good luck having a complete PAL collection. Not only would you have some of the worst games imaginable but you'd have to buy a new house just to store them!

There are lots of sought after/collectable PSone action games like Kyuiin, Harmful Park, Little Ralph, Panzer Bandit, Toaplan Shooting Battle, Tenchi Wo Kurau II, Captain Commando, Zanac X Zanac, DoDonPachi, Gaia Seed...

I would be tempted to say the Japanese PSone is the best system ever, it has quality in pretty much every genre. A lot of the good stuff never made to the US, and PAL PSone stuff...well its just tat really.

Most of the collectible games for the playstation are rpg's or rpg hybrids (castlevania, valkyie profile) and maybe a few shooters. As far as undiscovered gems go I really enjoyed Thousand Arms which seems to have slipped by most peoples radar.

              Castlevania sotn
              Einhander
              Azure Dreams
              Parraper the rapper
              Um Jammy Lammer

PAL PSX gamers got some brilliant packages - take the Capcom Generations collection for example. Japanese gamers had to buy five different discs, but PAL gamers got all five in one collection, and at one point it could be purchased for ?15 from Dixons. The games were all letterboxed but what the hey.

Oh and Final Fantasy Tactics is a stunning PSX title too. How it failed to get a Euro release puzzles me.

I know a few US PS1 collectors... at least one of them has a complete collection. Amazing what you can find in shops now for a dollar or two... does make acquiring lots of them fairly easy over there if you can find shops still selling the games.

Hmm pretty intresting replys, some i kind of expected tbh.
For me the ps1 is on a par with the pcengine in as far as undiscovered games go, theres so much stuff avalible games people have never heard of turn up quite regularly (now would have been an exellent time to give an example of such a game!!!Cant think of the names?,Dammit! youll just have to trust me one this one ) for me along with many of the games mentioned the 'holy grail' would be somthing like a playable first unreleased build of biohazard 2, thats unlikey to happen but theres gems and quirky gems aplenty to be going on with, whats that game where you play a chef in a resturant and you have to chop up food with your dualshocks? Or that conducting game that you can play with real batons? Or that sega game with the tabourines? or, or,or,or...

It's strange that the ps1 retro scene isn't really big. Maybe its because quite a few of the ps1's best games have been bettered with their respective sequels on the ps2?
