Alisia Dragoon was well later than launch, wasn't it? The rest sound about right.

No way was Alisia Dragoon a launch title. That came out in April 1992 in Japan so the PAL version would have been at least a few months after that.

Alisia Dragoon was deffo circa Mega CD launch....

Kujakoh II (mystic defender) came out along with Super Shinobi in japan, my infactuation started there when CVG simultaniously reviewed them

I cant doubt Shinobi being the better game (defining side scroller...ever?), but Kujakoh is the stuff of 16 bit dream.

^ That had some great tunes - I had that on that multigame pirate cart that did the rounds in the early 90's (it also had Hellfire, Forgotten Worlds, Truxton and Columns on it iirc.) I used to love them multigame bootlegs, on the rare occasions I found one - even the one that had Air Diver on it(!)

I'm pretty sure shinobi wasn't a day 1 launch title actually, I got Truxton with my PAL MD, and if i could i would have bought shinobi, as that was the game i'd been lusting after for the best part of a year. Theres no way i would have bought truxton if i could have had shinobi, especially considering the cost of these games and me being 12 at the time.

I think shinobi was released slightly after the PAL MD launch. i'm 95% sure.
The only other alternative was there was a massive shortage of shinobi and i couldn't find it in the shops. thats my 5% doubt

I'm not sure GnG was a day 1 launch title either, i remember it costing ?45 when it did come out however, and Alisia dragoon as covered definately wasn't.

December 2nd 1989. That would be Japanese release date, so chances are it was a launch game in the UK.

It wasn't. Neither was Strider, which was the other ?45 game.
                    Kept you waiting, huh?

Thought I might bump this thread. I love this game, but this guy shows just how small the game really is.

Personally, I've always felt that Revenge of/Super Shinobi was somewhat overrated. A decent game, but by no means brilliant and certainly not the definitive Shinobi title that so many make it out to be (though admittedly, due credit must always be given to Yuzo Koshiro's fine soundtrack).

For me, Shadow Dancer was and is the superior game by some distance, and it has definitely aged far better than Revenge of/Super Shinobi. In fact, I'd go further and say that the original Shinobi and Game Gear Shinobis were also better.

I would say original shinobi and revenge 2 are best followed by shadow dancer and revenge. All are good though, haven't played the game gear ones myself.

Oh yeah as for revenge being a launcher! I think it was as I remember gazing at various catalouge books and seeing it. I bought mine a bit later with ghouls from currys.

That video is very impressive! I love revenge, and for me it sits with 'Shinobi' as the finest moments of the series. The game gear versions were ok, but felt very much like cut and paste jobs of the 'big' versions.

For a release game Revenge of Shinobi was amazing. I remember being 13 or so and amazed at the opening alone! All I had for my MD up until then was Altered Beast.

Er...I wasn't aware that there was ever a "Revenge Of Shinobi 2".

As far as the MD was concerned, Shadow Dancer was the follow-up to Revenge Of/Super Shinobi, no?
