tho you can hardly call Mario 64 overlooked

    Comment

i wasn't aware we had to use overlooked games? people have mentioned Resi 4 and stuff in earlier posts.. or am i reading something wrong here ?

fair enough, seems a bit daft to celebrate the same games over and over again though. It's like the Famitsu best games stuff is always Final Fantasy games.

Same with Channel 4s "best 100 movies ever" and stuff. Yes, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings etc are great, but meh I'd rather hear someone talking enthusiastically about a film I'd never even heard of. I think this sort of forum would be an excellent way of exposing true hidden gems I mean games like Mario 64 get talked about enough already in the retro forum.

I read into it that it was for starting some discussions for specific games.. i'm sure there are a lot of gamers on here who have fond memories of the N64 launch and playing what we would have normally thought to have been cgi in real time for the first time.. it sticks out in my mind anyway as it was the first big step into true free 3d platforming. If you choose an obscure game you might just get one guy talking about it and nobody else able to join in etc...

anyway, looking forward to seeing what games are chosen...

Freedom Fighters pretty please, its BC and on all formats

November 22 will see Rez? celebrate it's 5th birthday, so that's my suggestion for next month.

It's likely many won't have played it, or they will have played it, but dismissed it without giving it a proper examination, plus I want to play it again.

I played Rez on the DC and thought it was great, the PS2 version has it's own controller though doesn't it? How does that work?

Nah, the game is just played with a normal PS2 controller. The thing you're thinking of is the Trance Vibrator, which just vibrates and is an optional extra kind of thing.

I think Freedom Fighters is a decent idea, though there's not a great deal of depth to the game in terms of dicussing it for the month. It's satisfying, but not exactly deep. But I didn't know it was on the BC list... bonus!

                      My suggestions:

Psi Ops. The first stirrings of love towards Havok?
Jax and Daxter - the original, and still the best platformer on PS2. Or is it?
Quake - Doom on XBLA still stands up today. Does this?
                      Evil Genius - overlooked, underloved.
                      Pirates! - Perfectly formed
Dreamfall - a game 5 people played. All 5 enjoyed.
Tony Hawks 3 - the best 2 minutes in gaming ever.
                      Prince of Persia - agreed

                      and..

Primal. Yes, there I said it. The latter I think might be wrth a reapraisal. Apart from the 8/10 official PS2 mag review, it was totally dismissed on release. Perhaps it might be worth revisiting? Perhaps not. At least a copy of it would be cheap (I think I got mine for 99p in Blockbusters...)

Amen to that...one of my favorite games of last gen and one of the few games in recent years I've played through more than twice.

I've already played Rez to death but would love that to be next on the list just to read what discussion comes out of it, plus never did get the

                            butterfly

ending so could go for that...

nooooo not Rez, I need my life dammit! XD It's one of them games where if I put it on, I end up playing it over and over for hours on end whether I intended to or not. Quite possibly the best Dreamcast game imo, if it isn't then it's second only to Jet Set Radioooooo! Which would be my other suggestion.

Luigi's Mansion - celebrate the upcoming Nintendo Wii launch by replaying the pick of launch games from their last home console. Plus, it is quite a short-but-sweet game so evryone should play it through easily enough within the allotted time.
