I'm stuck. I can't remember how to enter the Fire Temple. Don't tell me though.

The first time I played through Ocarina of Time I actually went to the Fire Temple before the Forest Temple which is strange for a Zelda game because normally you have to go through each dungeon in a set order and everything I have read about OOT always has the Forest Temple first.

Did you manage to complete it? I'm sure there are some Hookshot/Bow sections in there. Did you also manage to pick up the Fire Tunic prior?

I did complete it because I remember having a lot of trouble with the final boss. I managed to get the Fire Tunic beforehand, I dread to think how hard the dungeon would be without it.

Just fired it up again.... done the deku tree to get started, forgotten just how atmospheric this game is!

David, in Master Quest I'm pretty sure you need the bow for the Fire Temple (possibly even the hookshot, I can't remember), whereas in Ocarina of Time, like ryodi said, you can attempt the first 2 levels in whichever way you like. I did a run through of the game a few years back trying to finish the game as fast as possible and I did the Fire Temple in my Kokiri suit . I finally got stuck trying to do the Shadow Temple without the Eye of Truth though but I reckon it would be possible to do...

Stuck again. It's these 'plot point puzzles' (as Ron Gilbert would say) that are the hardest. Just after finishing the water temple and got those fire arrows.Don't tell me tho, I want to spend hours of frustration figuring it out
Does anyone notice this thread is turning into a replay Appreciate?

I don't think I've ever met anyone that has criticised the zelda series, maybe some that say it's "not for them" but they still have respect for it.

Me, I'm hooked again, am on the lookout for Majora's mask and only just started OoT again!

I've never been a fan of its narrative, but on a gameplay and atmosphere you can't fault Zelda.

Ocarina of Time's high point for me was the ingenuity and abstraction present in the Forest Temple. The ideas were insane inside it.

It'd be impossible mate, you start burning as soon as you zone into the Death Mountain crater with the normal tunic.

D: WOW! I never knew that - I thought you got the timer of doom everytime you enter the crater area with the normal tunic. Man, that must have been a challenge!

And yeah, you need thebow for the fire temple or else you can't open some doors.

I really hope we see lots of attire for Link in the new Zelda. Three or four tunics would be ace, or even some full blown armour towards the end of the game?

That's one of the best things about Metroid, you can actually feel Samus progressively becoming more powerful with each upgrade. at the end of Prime 2 I felt (and looked like ) I could take on anything.

Narrative? It's spot on man! Some truely poetic words flow from Sheik at times.

I had memories of the Forest temple being one of my favourites, however, after sitting through the Fire Temple again I'd say it's hard to draw a line between any of them.

I love the bit where you take that pressurised 'block elevator' all the way up to the very first 'switch room' in the game, climb up a bit more, and then enter a room with a very narrow three-way bridge.... you can look down and see that you're actually at the top of a massive funnel over the top of the long bridge and moving platform lava hall.

You can never fault the architecture of Nintendo's best. Rare used to have a talent for this also, as witnessed with the absolutely massive Area 51 complex on Perfect Dark that spreads over several missions although always retains it's perfect geometry the way it links up and meets back up with itself.

                        ------------

I'm actually hoping my Wii gets lost in the post so that I can fit Majora in now. Ocarina's my personal favourite 3D Zelda although I remember thinking to myself whilst playing it that Majora is actually the better game. The Ocean Temple (with it's own fully operational plumbing system) and the last dungeon (can't remember the name, the one that you have to turn upside down and back to normal all the time) were just cruel, especially with the time ticking away. Probably the two most taxing levels on any game I've ever played. I literally fear them and don't look forward to repeating them.

Funny enough, I've been playing this on my cube over the last while (well actually started months ago, but picked it back up again, trying to finish it before the Wii).

I'm now on the last dungeon, heading for Gandondorf - really quite enjoying it still, never finished in on the N64, my save file died and I couldn't face starting again.

Just trying not to play it too much as I'm worried I'll go straight into Twilight and be sick of Zelda.
