Your Top 5 Arcade Side-Scrolling Fighters!

As is the case in the Retro thread, somebody's discussion of one game leads you to reminisce about another and the "name this arcade" thread has lead to this:

Your top 5 Scrolling Fighters list! (*fanfare*)
Try not to let rose-tint-o-vision to be activated too much, but briefly explain why your choices rocked! Remember, please make them arcade only and side-scrolling fighters (no Shinobi or Rolling Thunder etc.) for this thread.

Man, this is really hard, but hopefully this'll prompt some re-playing of games you'd forgotten and maybe finding some you've not played before.

I'll get the ball rolling then?

    1. Final Fight - the best combination of moves, combos, levels and weapons
    2. Bad Dudes Vs. Dragon Ninja - I'm bad! So many moves, so many ninjas!
    3. Crude Buster - Never played a game with so many weapons to pick up!
    4. TMNT - How LOUD was this cabinet? I loved the turtles, bit hard though.
    5. Double Dragon - The Original...

So many were close, I may allow you a top ten, if you're on a roll!

    Let's fight! QC.

    1. Final Fight - Brilliant characters and classic gameplay
    2. Alien Vs. Predator - Good combo system and choice of characters
    3. The Simpsons - Hours of fun, criminally not released on Xbox Live
    4. Captain Commando - It had ninjas, guns and a baby in a mechsuit
    5. Turtles in Time - Much better than the original arcade, great in 4 player

I can't fault any of those. All brilliant and hold up today too. Captain Commando was great! I've only ever played it on an emulator - never seen it in the wild...

My Top 5 of all time would be...

          1) X-Men (The first cabinet I ever saw with 3 screens & 6 players)
          2) Cadillacs & Dinosaurs
          3) Turtles In Time
          4) Bad Dudes Vs Dragon Ninja
          5) Shadow Dancer

Ooh yeah, violent storm! That's a good one. I was thinking of Vigilante when you said Vendetta. I always thought Vigilante was a lot like Kung-Fu Master, but a quick check on KLOV says it was sort-of a sequel! Nice Nunchaku action...

Oooh ooh, remember Gang Wars? Freaked me out when they all laughed at you when you fell down! Rotters.

I remember seeing The Ninja Warriors for the first time! Look at the size of that thing! It was one of those games I was scared to play because it looked really tough when the big boys played it! Ninja Vs. Tank?!

X-Men, Turtles and Simpsons were simply designed to hoover up your holiday spending money...

                1) Golden Axe: Revenge Of Death Adder
Great selection of characters and abilities and a variety of creatures to ride. The best Golden Axe game and unlike certain other games (AVP, DND Shadows Over Mystara and Simpsons) doesn't have a license issue holding it back from a console release yet has never been on any console for some reason.

                2) Aliens Vs Predator

                3) Crude Dudes/Crude Buster

                4) Burning Fight

                5) Asterix

I never got to play Dungeon & Dragons: Shadows over Mystrara,
otherwise that might have topped my list.

Demolish Fist is the latest arcade scrolling fighter released (2003) it might one of the last ones. It's in Casino arcade, anyone else played it?

At first I thought Night Slashers was about somebody trying to find some alley to urinate in after a night down the pub...

On closer inspection, it's a zombie beat-em-up! Will check that bad boy out, fo sho!

Punisher - OTT violence and guns... not on anyone elses list??
Final Fight - Still one of the best.
Cadillacs & Dinosaurs - Guns and dinos. Ace game.
Double Dragon - A bit ropey now, but I lost a lot of time to this cabinet.
TMNT - Frantic coin gobbling machine, but with 3 mates it was superb.

Personally, I feel that there's no point in me naming my top-five scrolling fighters as it would probably be a predictable Capcom love-in.

All I will do is ask one question: How come nobody has mentioned Knights Of The Round?

                              1 - Final Fight
                              2 - Cadillacs and Dinosaurs
                              3 - Golden Axe
                              4 - Double Dragon
                              5 - Dynamite Dekka

I would put Streets of Rage in there somewhere if it had ever been a coin-op.
