    1. Aliens
    2. Final Fight
    3. Crude Busters
    4. Vigilante
    5. DnD series (sorry!)

Can we really only have five favourites? I really want to put Kung Fu Master and Bad Dudes in my list!! I can't believe no-one else has mentioned Aliens yet, either. Or even that weird Japanese scrolling fighter known as Renegade in the West?

In my original post, I said top 5, but top 10 if you're on a roll, so if you want to edit your list - go for it! I said 5 as it's a little neater.

I also said no Shinobi or Rolling Thunder because although KLOV list them as scrolling fighters, the whole projectile thing takes away the requirement to beat 'em up. So try to avoid those type games if possible.

Rygar's an interesting one as although it's a projectile yo-yo razor sharp disc thing, it's only short range. I'll let this one go, but don't be slipping no Chelnovs into your lists!

Played my way through Vendetta on Saturday night while my girlfriend was at a hen night . All the classic cliches were there - kidnapped girlfriend, the big bad boss, last level is all the end-of-level bosses. Brilliant!

Anybody else played/replayed any games people have listed since reading this thread?

          For me its:-
          1. Tenchi wo Kurau 2
          2. Dungeons and Dragons SOM
          3. Aliens vs Predator
          4. Final Fight
          5. Simpson
          Also speccy's Target Renegade!

Can't believe no one has mentioned Tenchi wo Kurau 2 (Warriors of fate 2 I think), great capcom side scroller with 5 characters to choose from and some great moves to learn. Try it now its only £20ish for the saturn version, which is pretty much arcade perfect, I think its on mame as well...

The original Renegade on the Speccy was great, too! It just felt so scummy and scuzzy with its detailed sprites and vivid, moody backgrounds. I preferred it to the arcade version, especially in terms of atmosphere!

I notice a fair few people have put GOlden Axe in their list. Has anyone played it recently - it's horribly clunky in terms of combat / movement of the main character

I still play it to this day, the arcade mostly, but Megadrive as well. I play it so much that I can go through the Arcade without getting hit! The easiest character to play it with is Gillius, but while they all plod along a little bit, after a while you realise that most of the AI is easily fooled.

I'm not going to bother mentioning all the ones already discussed so how about the obscure yet suprisingly decent Rastan 3. There's another I played on mame a while back, can't remember it's name though. It's by Data East I think and was really daft; one the characters is an Elvis clone with an electric gutair special move.

I'm suprised to see so many mentions of that Simpsons Arcade game, my love for the series aside, it's a terrible pile of garbage and is mechanically broken.

                              In no order.

                              1. Golden Axe - amazed anyone could prefer the sequels
                              2. Shinobi
                              3. Final Fight
                              4. Double Dragon - despite what earlier posts said, I still find it great fun.
                              5. Kung Fu Master - one day I'll beat that bastard fifth floor.

I know what you mean, but like Ninja turtles before it, they really were great fun with 4 players...
